Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

Howdy Folks, I have 2 app spitz from the original 12. Freaky (Named 'cause she freaks out when I come near her) is perfect! She is laying huge white eggs and is beautiful. Not a show specimen but perfect for my little backyard flock. It was 110 out when I took this so her wings are...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

OK it's time: Of the three remaining App Spitz I have, please meet Freaky: she is so named because she freaks out whenever I come near her My original plan was to breed her as she is closest to what I've been reading was what to look for. Unfortunately my flock was infected with...

Thank you Carla - we have been giving it to her on an as needed basis but I'm thinking you are right, once a week or even more often might be better.

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

Thank you Carla - she passed the next evening - & it turns out it was not Floppsy - another un-named Spitz The general consensus in the AZ forum is a scorpion or widow sting/bite. I've got three AS left...

Howdy folks! Floppsy is the App Spitz who has a vitamin deficiency she is 5 months old. At least when we give her the vitamin you recommended (Poly-vi-sol) she gets better. I went out this AM to let them out and she was outside the coop 12' away, just sett'n on the dirt. she must not...

I read somewhere that some people have crossed them with polish for the crests. I am the farthest thing from an expert but have not heard crossing with a silke. She is the one that Carla helped me out with the vitamin deficiency - it worked quite well but I still call her Flopsy

Yes - but not as iridescent. Ahhh well... she looks cool anyway.

I have no plans on showing but I would like to breed toward the theoretical standard for the breed. I did not see upright tails or foward facing crests on the ebay birds. It was good of the person to post picts of the parents though... Blue ears on a Spitz anyone?

I love these little girls. Although one has a vitamin deficiency (Carla recommended the poly-vi-sol & it seems to work) so I named her Flopsy. She has the most amazing blue ears! I'm sure that is not supposed to go with the breed but it looks so cool! Named another Hoppy as she loves...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

It was terrible as I was trying to nurse these silly little birds and they kept dying one by one in my hands. Ideal kept shipping them with no packing peanuts in January - they arrived in very poor condition. I'd love to get a couple of good quality roos with which to breed my girls. I...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

They shipped mine three times because they kept dying en route or soon after they arrived. Of the 12 I ordered, I have only 4 pullets left (no roos) - 2 have toenail deformities and two look good. Of the four my friend got, she has only one left. I have 17 other chickens of various breeds...

I had been on their waiting list for the Spitz from October - in January they released their first hatch. Those silly birds are so very delicate...

OK - here we go. I have an ex brother in law twice removed (no kidding) that lives in Vienna. As that is (as far as I'm concerned) right next door to Appenzeller Switzerland, I've sent him a request to look into shipping some fertile App Spitz eggs. Maybe get this breed revitalized! Any...

Howdy folks - I know I've not posted but once or twice here. I love the spitz and had (operative word "had") a bunch. Are they pretty delicate in general? I have lost so many to various and sundry causes and now have a 3 month old pullet who is acting "lazy" - falls over like she is drunk...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

I finally got the third shipment from ideal yesterday. Of course they forgot the packing peanuts but the shipment only took a day so they all arrived happy and healthy. As an aside - only one of 6 spitz chicks survived the shipping last week. It was so developmentally challenged from the...

I do agree with the concept, but it was tough. Ideal is making good on the dead ones & I should have 2 roos as originally planned.

Very cute Spitz-en-peepers! I'm quite surprised at how large their wing feathers are already (5 days old)

That's what I'm telling myself. It was their first hatch of the year & the ones that died were all noticeably smaller than the rest. Still have one small one left - that one seems to be not as peppy as the others. We'll see what happens.

Texas to Arizona. Shipped Wednesday, arrived Friday. 7 of 12 made it. the Welsummers, gold sex links and ideal 238's all made it just fine. It was the App Spitz's who did not fare well.
