Sure hope you are okay thru the storm! Will be praying.
My 80 year old cousin lives in Triverton RI.
Get some of those hunter's hand warmers to add to your incubator and brooder in case the power goes off.
I'll be moving 20 Wyandotte and Bantam eggs along with 33 quail eggs to lockdown this evening with hatch on the 24th.
Couldn't sleep so I'm catching up on my thread reading.:caf
Going back to read the last 119 posts! But had to put in this photo of the Sept 18 - 19 hatch.
Baby quail, Columbian Wyandotte, and White W x CW, and several bantams.
Ive found that the embryo has periods of no movement...even when candling with a bright light.
Eggs in lockdown do not always rock and roll either.
So hatched chicks don't play football with those eggs that have not yet hatched, I put all eggs in the hatcher in a cardboard egg carton where I...
Here is the you tube video about it...it was 2008!
Notice as she assists that there are no visible blood vessels on the inner membrane and that both chicks are ready to hatch.
I think I would have used tweezers instead of a knife....just saying.
Never begin to assist if there are visible...

You asked about going injectable antibiotics. By all means, yes it is okay. 1/2 cc for an adult bird in the breast or thigh. Insert the needle just barely under the skin in an upward motion. I prefer under the skin rather than into the muscle. Penicillin, Tylan50, amoxicillin are effective.
Updates:
The quail hatch went well...I was going to change their papers but hat to snap the picture of this Little Duckwing pullet is acting like a momma. I always keep an older chick or two in with the hatchlings to teach them about the feeder and water. That is a Delaware Bantam behind her...
Serama eggs are extremely sensitive to temperature changes...especially shipped eggs . I tried two shipment of eggs with no success. I finally bought two lovely pair and have incubated every one of their eggs. Shifting from incubator to a hatcher means maintaining the same temperature in...
My Goodness this thread is BUSY! I will post and then go back to read and catch up!
My chick began hatching thru the night. Out of 16 set, 9 went into lockdown and only 6 hatched. One was dead in shell and two were quitters. The Delaware Bantam chick is behind the digital monitor. Only 16...
First, are the thermometers at the same height in the incubator? On top of the eggs is the best height for both. The temperature can be different at different heights.
Try trading positions with both thermometers. See if they register the same temperatures. If you still get 99 on the right...
