Sounds like you have a good plan, when I built my walls I put 1/4 inch hardware wire in the walls as well to keep rodents out also in the floor and ceiling. As far as roost space goes I have way too much room it seems. I went by recommendations of 1’ per bird and they generally cram around one...
Hi @Missjlee4377! I’m in northeast Ontario this was my first winter with chickens, both my crested cream legbars have frost bite on combs but doing well in general, the rest of my flock has been unaffected. I have a Brahma cockerel, a Hedemora Cockerel, 2 Ameraucana pullets and 5 bielefelder...
I did see the one at premier 1, it is actually in my virtual shopping cart lol I just had run out of money by the time I found it. It has really promising reviews, maybe I’ll be able to buy it this summer.
Just curious has anyone found a reliable heated waterer? I have 2 styles the one with nipples freezes in the mildest temperatures the open trough style has been reliable all winter until today it froze over but for some reason the nipple one wasn’t frozen... ugh I don’t understand lol
Great advise! Wish I’d thought of that last year when I got my first chicks! They were different sizes and some of them were stretching to reach the brooder plate and others were crouching, I would try to make mounds of shavings under the plate but they would scatter the shavings. This would...
I have read in the hatching threads it was a particularly good year for the boys!! I guess we have to feel fortunate we don’t live in areas that don’t allow Roos, it would be sad to have to rehome them if they get along well. My two boys are best friends right now they are still young but they...
Mine are too young to lay yet, but i am very excited to see the first eggs! The legbars are very cute and the most inquisitive, the ameraucanas are the friendliest and the hedemora I find is the most flighty also the trouble maker of the group lol I had thought about hatching too but I don’t...
I have ameraucanas, bielefelders, hedemora, Brahma and crested cream legbars. My Brahma is for sure a roo and suspicious the hedemora is also a roo but still no feathering to say for sure. The egg in your profile pic is that from your ameraucanas?
I will for sure! No snow here yet but it won’t be long every night is below freezing all waters outside the coop have a sheet of ice covering in the morning so far though the water in the coop is unaffected. Albertan I am curious what type of digital thermometer do you use? Sounds like a great idea!
