Schnebbles--Do you have a garage you could possibly put them in where someone could come care for them without coming in the house (if you're more comfortable with that)? You could possibly put heat lamps up for the birds & plug them into timers so they are only on at night so the birds don't...
Julie-- Very sorry about your rooster! It's hard, but it sounds like it was what needed to be done so it's good you did.
Later add:
Genilou-- Just saw your post about Tunes. So very sorry you are having to lose her. I've lost some very dear birds before, too, and it is really hard to go...
BigECarter - Do you think remaining diarrhea in your flock could be caused by something else?
I don't know all that has been involved, but I think one of my birds that has periodically had long-lasting diarrhea problems has been infected with E. coli & suffered from Ulcerative Enteritis. At...
It'd probably be helpful to start a new thread specifically on this problem. I can't remember for sure what symptoms are, but I'm thinking it's not Marek's?
To be optimally effective, Tylan 50 needs to be given at a dose of approximately 1 1/2 cc's daily. When dosed less, disease bacteria is likely to able to become resistant rather than be killed.
The Medicine Chart in my sig below lists a variety of medicines that may be applicable for treating...
If it's useful for anyone, here's some of the info I've put together on Tylan & used in treating my birds:
Med may treat some (but not necessarily all) strains of these health problems: Infectious Coryza, Mycoplasma, Necrotic Enteritis, Ornithobacterium Rhinotracheale
--For soluble: Mix...
Schnebbles-- So very, very sorry for your loss! I send my deepest condolences.
I'm sorry your husband is having a hard time understanding. Everyone can't understand everything so I'm glad you've found people here to understand the chicken part of your life.
You can use calcite instead of oyster shell, if you want. It's much cheaper.
You'll also need to offer them a container of grit (small stones) if they don't have access to the out-of-doors to pick it up themselves.
If you do use oyster shell, I think it serves a dual purpose as both a calcium...
You are being so conscientious! You have my respect.
I hope you are able to find out what has been the problem for your birds and are able to find solutions.
Some of the tests you can get done by Texas A&M are listed at the link below. There might also be other tests available?

I once got some helpful diagnostic counsel on the phone from one of the Texas A&M labs. They could perhaps help you figure out...
Don't know exact symptoms so don't know if it's a real possibility, but have you checked to see if the Achilles Tendon in her left leg may have slipped out of the hock joint? There is info on how to do that on the Poultry Podiatry page linked in my sig if you're not sure how.
This hoof trimming stuff is interesting. Anyone want to start a thread specifically on that?
My former husband was a farrier & I accompanied him on several jobs, and I've studied it alot since. Enough people are coming to this thread to read on Marek's that we probably should narrow down on...
Ryan,
I'd start a new thread so you can get the most helpful replies specific to your birds' condition. It doesn't sound like it is Marek's probably.
You can visit https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/3569/have-an-emergency-disease-please-read-first for good advice on starting a new thread.
I hope...
