An update, 7 weeks later. I sold some before I id'ed them, so it's not a complete listing
I have 5 turkeys:
2 BB whites, I think they're both toms.
3 Narragansett turkeys, no clue on sex.
2 pekin ducks - I think its a pair, but really not sure.
of the generic looking chicks:
2 -...
In my area they sell better if they don't need heat anymore, so I was planning on waiting until they were about 4 weeks old before listing them, but I just built a spreadsheet to tacker all my chickens and I currently have 81 birds. Not sure how that happened. I guess I should list some. Just...
Did you check your box really well? WhenI broke my box down for recycling, I found a packet with a themometer, a packet of sav-a-chick and a packet of electrolytes. You could give them those. If you can, separate the ones that aren't doing well into a smaller, warmer area where they won't be...
Don't worry about the tracking. USPS is horrible about updating it. Mine didn't get updated until after I got the call from the PO telling me they were ready to be picked up.
That's funny. Especially since I plan on processing them at 5 months.
Yup. I thought I was prepared, then I checked. My feed store only carried the game starter in 50lb bags, so I've got a bunch of the starter.
Turkeys and ducks need more protein and niacin than chicks. I have the turkeys and ducks on game bird starter. At 8 weeks, they will be switched to flock raiser. :)
I have all the chicks in one brooder, the turkeys in another and the ducks in a third. There are a few chicks with poopy-butts so they are in with the turkeys, mostly because it's easier to find them to check on them that way. The turkeys seem pretty mellow, and they are pretty nice to the...
an update on mine:
I lost one of the polish and 2 turkeys a couple of days ago. They were doing fine, and then the next morning when I went out to check on them, they were dead.
I ordered back in December, before they were processing orders. I had to call in January to make sure everything was okay, and it wasn't - I goofed when I entered the exp. date on my card, so my order got set to the side. You could easily call and ask. They were pretty nice on the phone.
Okay, so most of the chicks/poults are pictured here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/753935/cackle-hatchery-surprise-arrived-what-are-they
I started a thread to get help with their ids. The ones I know are:
Buttercup & Polish
Cochin
Pekin Ducks
White Turkeys
I wrote in the comments section of my online order that I would rather not get any cornish cross and that I wanted my shipping date to be in March after they start hatching turkeys. Guess they took that to mean I really wanted turkeys! What am I going to be with 7 turkeys?!
Mine arrived this morning! They sent 2 ducks, 8 turkeys and 32 chicks. One of the turkeys and one of the chicks didn't make it. Everything else looks pretty healthy. Looks like they sent everything in pairs! Of what I can ID:
4 white or royal palm turkeys (I don't know how to tell them...
