Wow. You've confirmed everything I've noticed. They are a mixed bunch. Some smaller, some bigger, some with poofy rears. Oh well, I'm just looking to keep a couple of pullets for eggs.

Thanks. I think I only have 3 maybe 4 pullets. I've decided to make things easier & will only keep 2 Buckeye pullets instead of 3. More for you! I love big birds! KlopKlop will make for a nice meat bird project.

Here are my Buckeyes at 6 weeks old now. Most appear to be cockerels. Anyone have one this pale feathered? Seems odd to me. :/

Yep, just gotta raise a bunch of cornish x and hope you get a few to survive to breeding age. ;) Have never raised these myself, but know its possible with the right set-up. Dixie Rainbows look great! I look forward to the cross as well. :)

I'd settle for eggs weighing 56-62 gms - the standard large egg in Canada. Nice to have for baking. My hatching eggs that came were mostly standard large & oval. A few bullet-shaped ones, but not many. Going to keep a Malines pullet as well for some XL-Jumbos eggs. (63 - 70+ gms). They're great...

That's great, goodb! I've had experiences with aggressive roosters before. No kids here, just an uninterested teenager, but I definitely prefer roosters that are more assertive & not aggressive. There's a fine line there & I've been fortunate to have roosters that have the right stuff! Those...

Here's some of my Buckeyes at 3 1/2 weeks old now. Have little time to take them out of brooder for pics as I just had a broody call duck hatch her babies on the weekend. :)

Thanks for the tip, Finnie! I'll try that. :)

Nice chicks! I'm having a hard time getting good pics of my Buckeyes. They're just over 3 weeks old, so still in the brooder. Will be easier once they're feathered out & transferred to the coop. They're growing well & a few look especially nice.

Well, I'm only getting started, but I do have an eye for detail. I think I'll enjoy mine too - still so young yet. :)

Interesting. Thanks for your perspective. :) It remains to be seen what these Saskatchewan birds will end up looking like.

Thank you. Yours look great too. A variety of shades of yellow/orange/brown. Once the feathers come in, I imagine they'll just be some shades of brown?

A couple of pics I took today. They're a week & a half now. Really liking them so far. :D

Hmmm...not a bad idea actually. They're only doing what's natural.

I thought they were about 50/50. Just my guessing. The cockerel is the light colored one, or the darker one to the right? I've got a big feeder in there, that's less likely for them to scratch out all the feed. :P

Here they are! A real nice bunch of healthy chicks. Seen some chest bumping already! When these guys aren't sleeping, they're quite active. I don't think I've seen such robust chicks. Love 'em! :D Check out the one with the karate moves on the right. I find uploading photos on BYC is much...

I've had chicks with bent necks before. Best to cull, IMO. That sucks about the piece of shell piercing one. Sometimes a chick will pierce a vein when hatching. All kinds of weird things can happen! Just hope to keep them at a minimum. Those numbers are a good start! I've been so busy lately...

Good broodies are the best! :D When you can't or don't have those, the best incubator you can buy is the next best option. I've had a crappy LG still air unit, then a Hovabator Genesis & now hatching in the Brinsea Octagon 40. This is the best, stress-free unit I've ever had. :) First Buckeye...
