At the majority of Trader Joes they sell fertile eggs in the refrigerator area. Typically they hatch out a Austra White type chicken. You will get a variety of sizes but they are a lot heftier than a standard scrawny leghorn type. There's a long thread here on BYC regarding hatching out...
I have a neghbor that had two splash Bresse cockerels, one had red shoulders and one did not. I don't think they are supposed to have them. Both were straight from Greenfire.
Those of you who have blue and splash - are they like the blacks? I'll be trading for a splash rooster and would like to put him in my black bresse pen.
Between freak accidents, illnesses, and egg theft by ground squirrels - I have to say the White Bresse have been the clear winner. Truly bomb proof birds here in Southern California.
Those are probably something else. Even if a rooster jumped the fence, They would still feather mostly white. And the legs are kind of a really light blue (and darken) as chicks get bigger. Hope they resend the right eggs next time :)
