I've crossed my Bresse rooster with my Trader Joes girls and the cockerels from that mix was really fast growing and delicious.

I find mine extremely calm.

I have a neghbor that had two splash Bresse cockerels, one had red shoulders and one did not. I don't think they are supposed to have them. Both were straight from Greenfire.

Chad, the blue/black/splash Bresse have jumbo eggs and a lighter frame.

They do like to do that - once they get older they eat normally standing up :)

I mean were they more like the meat type white bresse or the egg layer black bresse. Maybe if I put everyone together I can tease out the grey ;)

Between freak accidents, illnesses, and egg theft by ground squirrels - I have to say the White Bresse have been the clear winner. Truly bomb proof birds here in Southern California.

The blacks usually have a little bit of white around the eyes and on the tips of the wings from what I've seen.

How old are they? I've only kept them to about a year old - if they go broody at 2 years+ I would be thrilled!

Those are probably something else. Even if a rooster jumped the fence, They would still feather mostly white. And the legs are kind of a really light blue (and darken) as chicks get bigger. Hope they resend the right eggs next time :)
