What do you mean by "splotchy"? Do they have a lot of black feathers? Personally, I wouldn't cross them with another breed. It'll be generations before they'll again truly be Isbars and you probably won't gain much in the way of improvements. Productivity can go down if inbred too much, but...

I have seen others receive mottled chicks like you. They're either extras of another breed or not pure, so I wouldn't add them to any breeding program.

My girls' eggs look sage. I even have a brown egg layer, but will not breed her. Do you ever sell hatching eggs, Ihilani?

Lots of people order chicks or eggs through the mail which thankfully connects people all over the U.S. :) But if you can find them in person, all the better! Isbars come in black, blue, and splash colors. The males of every color have a birchen type coloration on top of their base color of...

You're welcome! I'm in the process of trying to implement spiral breeding for my hedemora. If I had the space and money I'd do it with every breed I have. It sounds like you're on a good path, be sure to post the results along the way :)

Maybe, not that I'm aware of. I wouldn't want to see them outcrossed, personally. I have a year-old blue male available for someone. He's brother to all of my hens and not useful for me to breed. Old lines, from The Old Farm House in Texas.

Very nice egg in both size and color for a new layer.

No standards yet. I personally like the dark eye better but if the two different types are pure Isbar I'm not adverse to sacrifice personal preference for some genetic diversity.

By chance are the green legs from splash birds? Of mine my blue birds have dark legs and my splash hen and rooster have dark yellow-green legs. There isn't as yet a standard, so if you're sure they're purebred there's no harm in breeding any or all of them.

I think mine were a little later, but I've had Hedemora start that young and those with Icelandics said their cockerels start pretty early too. Must be the Nordic blood ;)
