Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

Hello Kathy, you and I have discussed this before and I know you stand by ivermectin not being used in water but many disagree. I just scanned through the product info sheet and found nothing about it being or not being water soluble. I put some of the injectable ivermectin in water and...

Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

The 9 years I've had peafowl I've continued worming my peafowl with Ivermectin or Safeguard in water twice a year with no problems. I don't see any indication it's ever disturbed their molting or feathers growing back. I have beautiful healthy peafowl with gorgeous full feathering. Have lost...

Fancychooklady, did you get this from a book or website? I'd like to look at all the information in other chapters if you will share the source. Thanks in advance.

_________________________________ The following I copied years ago. I've made notes on my copy regarding dosages, etc; I've read on backyardchickens, other forums and internet. Lots of different opinions but know several people that have dosed using water and have had no problems with worms...

Did I mean alcohol based. Anyway it mixes well with water. I think the pour on will work if you put it on the bird. Don't know anything about using it.

It's the injectable so water based. Sorry Zazouse...I should have mentioned that.

Big difference, isn't it Kathy? Maybe they get too much with Safeguard instead of Ivermectin giving them too little. The wormer's are totally different. Instructions on Ivermectin says: 1 mL per 110 lb body weight for cattle and 1 mL per 75 lb body weight for swine. Safe-guard says: 2.3...

Zazouse, I'm using Noromectin, 1% Sterile Solution for cattle and swine. I pour it back and forth into a bucket a couple times a day to keep it stirred up good. I rotate so will use Safe-Guard in 6 months, also in water.

Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

Not sure how to post pictures but I'll try. What I have where taken while work was being done. I need to take better ones. My 5 pens open out to a big courtyard aviary that is roughly about 1,500 square feel to I can rotate them using the large space and sometimes I open the courtyard door...

Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

Well, I'm doing what I've done for 7 years that's worked 100% for me. Mixing a little under 5cc (one teaspoon) Ivermectin (generic) to a gallon of water. They will drink it for 3 days and I'll repeat in 10 to 14 days. 6 months from now I'll use Safe Guard Wormer. I'll put Probiotics in there...

Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

I should have mentioned my pens are 10 by 30 feet and the peafowl take turns getting out into the 1,400 square foot courtyard with 8 foot high fencing and heavy bird netting hoisted across the center to 12 feet being held up by two 12 foot steel posts. It's really nice with Live Oak tree limbs...

Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

Hello Zazouse, I had a heck of a time earlier today while adding sand to dirt in the 1,400 sq ft aviary in an area where the peafowl take dirt baths. Each time I add sand, dirt, DE or ash I dig it deeper and wider taking out rocks. We've had a lot of rain and one of my pet peafowl I love...

Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

Regarding worming in water Kathy, it must work because I've not had a worm problem in the 10 years I've had peafowl. I know a breeder that has used the method for 20 years with no worms. We do it every 6 months and all has been well. Many many use this procedure with Safeguard and Ivermectin...

Safeguard and Feather Damage While Molting

Five cc's in a gallon isn't likely to be very effective either. Think about it... If you were going to give it orally, how much would you give per bird? Let's pretend you have 5 hens, all about 4kg. If you were to dose them at 50mg/kg, which is what I do, you would need to put 10ml in an amount...
