Hi there! Sorry you didn't get a response yet Any more babies hatch out yet? I usually give it some time after their due date. I have had some hatch 2 days early to 3-4 days late(by my count...LOL) but you never really know. they have their own time schedule
I think it is just nature and development....chicks not strong enough to make it do not survive the hatch....which is why I usually do not assist unless I have made an error in incubation(too dry/wet).
Hi There! I am no expert, but I have found that the healthiest chicks hatch out first and quickly. The chicks that hatch a day or two later often have trouble getting out of the shell and are not the healthiest babies. I have assisted some that have done OK....others have had leg issues or do...
Hi there! Been a little busy and just xatching up! Congrats on your early bird in a hurry to see the world..LOL! Any more babies out to keep him company yet????
So glad to hear another chicken lover!!! I started by hatching in my classroom...hatched out one little bantam cochin 2 years ago and she was so sweet I just couldn't give her up! That began my chicken adventures. I LOVE broody hatches!!!! I have let my girl hatch out chicks 2 times so far...so...
NOPE!!!! I am right in your league! I have exactly 4 backyard hens...all bantam cochins because that is all I am zoned to have where I live. I hatch usually once a year in my classroom(quails, ducks and chicks of course!) for our science and then find them homes with people looking to add to...
WOW!!! I wonder if I could convince my hubby to limit myself to 2 cabinet incubators rather than 2 hovabators...LOL! It is STILL 2.....right??????? How many eggs it ACTUALLY hold is just minor details
Also a GREAT idea if you are handy at putting things together Haven't tried to make one yet...so far I am keeping my hatching under control by limiting myself to 2 bators ....so far........
Agreed! Circulated gives much better results in my experience. If you happen to get a still air cheap, you could always add a fan to it to create circulated.
LOL...mine thinks the same thing! And they even make a point to tell me that staring doesn't make them hatch any faster...LOL Doesn't keep me from peeking in that window though and talking to them anyway! I have only noticed rocking a day or 2 before their due, but I also don't think I am...
Awww...congrats! I want to try hatching calls as well, but they are pretty tricky to hatch...adorable though! I may attempt it this summer. I am getting ready to set quails, ducks(not calls) and bantam cochin eggs
Congrats!!!!! So happy for you! I am getting eggs for the beginning of April...YIPPIEEEEEE!!! Could use some pics of your fluffy chicks to hold me over
If the others are ready to hatch as well, I would not wash them at this point. Not really good to wash eggs at all because it washes off the protective coating of the egg and can allow infection. Glad to hear your chick is doing great!!!
Hi! Check out this website. She has some great info specific to hatching calls because they do need different treatment. She is very knowledgeable and has success with hatching calls Good luck with your hatch!

Oh geeze...BRRRRRRR!!! I do miss the fact that we don't have seasons here...well we do have one season...summer all year...LOL! We are excited if we get a little drizzle...let alone real rain! But we are a desert after all so what can we expect
Yep! Not sure how I would handle moving...
Hopefully someone else will chime in as well, but I would make sure you wrap up your bator with a towel to help keep the heat in...don't cover your air holes though. Good luck...fingers crossed you don't lose power
