I can't really tell you how long recovery will take. Every case is a bit different I think. In my guys case it took WAAAAY longer than I ever expected. I really don't believe that wry neck is painful to them. It looks horrible and I'm sure it's frustrating for them but I don't believe they...
Oh I'm so so sad to hear that :(
You did your very best and gave him some great days. I know that's not a big comfort now but I'm positive Leo knew that and loved you for it.
Well at least if Leo is being a jerk it sounds like he's feeling better!
I thought my little wry neck guy was a girl for 3 weeks and had named him Tinkerbell
because he was so tiny! His name now is Happy Gilmore.
Happy's mom had 7 eggs and hatched 5 successfully. She left the last 2 eggs 2...
I think when they get tired their symptoms show more...just like people really. My dad had Alzheimer's disease and his symptoms were far worse in the evening or if he hadn't slept well. That's what I put it down to anyways.
Very very welcome :) I have a special place in my heart for all the little ones that have extra challenges thrown at them in their short life. And I always find that when you can help improve things for them they have so much gratitude towards you! Thank you for caring for Leo so well
Hard to tell. I have never seen roach back other than pics. Her body just seems lopsided over her legs which is odd. Regardless your treatment won't cause any harm to her and she seems happy and very mobile so I would keep treating for wry neck and see what happens. Fingers crossed :)
I wonder if she may have roach back. It is a deformity of the spine (sort of like scoliosis in humans). Have you ever seen her not look "crooked"? Check out some pics of it because it looks similar but might just be those moments of the pics. Regardless she's a pretty girl :). I love barred birds
If you can find selenium pills I would add that (1/2 a 50mcg tab daily) as it is required to absorb vitamin E. I also gave 2 drops of polyvisol children's liquid vitamin (without iron) and the vitamin B complex. My opinion is to give him a chance-especially since he's eating and drinking. They...
I typically found that my little guy (Happy) was best in the morning. But he was a baby and hatched out with wry neck so was alone in a brooder as his mother rejected him and his siblings trampled him. Evenings his symptoms were horrible and his head was upside down between his legs. The best I...
I get it. When I have an ill one it feels like the weight of the world on my shoulders and like I'm somehow supposed to know all the right things to do. Reality is you are not a vet and many times even an expert can't fix everything. When my little guy couldnt even stand on his own I had to go...
You are not an awful chicken owner. A person can only be stretched so far. There's some great YouTube videos on feeding a wry neck chicken that may help. Or another option is tube feeding (which in the long run would be much faster for both of you and all meds could go directly through the tube...
I would crush 1 whole pill into either moistened chicken food or eggs (whichever is more likely to get completely eaten). This bottle doesn't say how many mcg it is that's why I took a pic of what each pill contains. If she seems to be having a hard time drinking (my guy couldn't at all) then...
Don't get discouraged...it's not always an over night fix. When I was going through this I read so many stories about miraculous cures in a matter of days. My experience wasn't like that. These guys need a calm environment (sudden noises and lots of activity seems to worsen symptoms) and I did...
