My birds didn't know what to think about the fodder when I first gave it to them. I think they were afraid of it. Once they got used to it, they love it and come running for it. Give yours a little time and I bet they will come around.
Yes, your trays need to have drainage holes. I would put lots more drainage holes and then flood your trays several times a day with water and see if that takes care of the mold.

I think you need to get rid of any mold spore that might be on your equipment. bleech and less water mist more often and maybe more air circulation, Maybe change whre you get your seed?
I also was having some mold problems. I did clean all my equipment with bleach as mentioned...
I was having mold problems also. I washed all my flats with soap then bleach water and changed how I was watering my fodder. I have not had a problem with mold since I changed my system. I think I was not getting enough water throughout the flats and it was allowing the mold to start growing...
I revised my automatic watering system again yesterday. The drip system appeared to not get enough water throughout and I think was causing some of my mold problems. I took all my trays up the the house and gave them a good hot water washing then a bath in bleach water to kill any mold still...
I have been having mold problem also. It seems to appear at about day 4. I am going to try the bleach soak this weekend to see if that helps. So far I had one pan that I threw totally out and few others that I picked small areas off before feeding. I did not have any problems with mold...
Fed some fodder to the quail this morning. They are afraid of it. I had the same reaction from the other birds so I think once they figure it out it will be okay. The geese and ducks have really started to looking forward to the fodder and gobble it down pretty quickly. Fed the fermented...
I have quail but have not given them any of the fodder yet. I will give them some this weekend and post on how they like it. At this point, the fodder I am making has been in addition to regular food for the geese, ducks, chickens, guineas, and turkeys. I can tell on the days that I feed the...
I have not had mine in long enough yet to have a problem. Looking at the water after a couple of days I can see why there would be a problem. I have to work at getting a holes in the crate top for the pump pipe and drain area because I am told exposure to light will cause algea to grow. I...
The pump, timer, and drip system is up and running for the fodder. It was pretty easy to install. I will watch it for a couple of days but I think I am going to have to put misters on to get good overall soaking. The dripping seems to be just wetting some of the fodder.
If I can produce...
I am going to put in my pump, water lines, & timer on my fodder system today. I does not seem to hard and I hope that is the case. My system is working nicely but it will be somewhat automated once I get this stuff installed.
I fed out 6 pans of fodder yesterday. Most of the birds love it...
I agree with this. I have been around a lot of different animals and honestly some of the stuff they find and eat is down right awful. As I posted awhile back, we get produce from a produce stand in the summer months and it does not take long for mold to grow in hot weather. Our animals and...
The first two pictures show our work in progress fodder system.
We search around the barn and found an old shower pan and the
metal stand that it is setting on. We also found the white shelving and
a plastic bin for the water to drain into. Next we will add a pump and
water line watering...
Great information, Skip. I think I am having that problem with putting my trays with holes inside the trays without holes to keep from dripping all over everything. I hope to be able to set up something with a shower pan and a water catching system that will allow me to just use the flats with...
