When I started chicken keeping my first flock came from Ideal. I got several bantam cochins and one was a self blue I named Oscar. He was the sweetest and would sit with me outside on the bench. He didn't like to be held but he would jump up and sit wherever i was. Unfortunately, he was...
I don't have any of those. My broodies were a silkie, bantam Cochin, faverolles, and australourpe. They did pretty good together. I just let them do their thing.
Im sure the more experienced have a better way but I can usually tell after 3-4 weeks when the combs start coming in....I havent mastered sexing day olds but im sure the pros have a better way.
I purchased eggs from ebay and hatched them. I got black, red, buff and lavender. I may not keep them...I love bantams especially cochins but so do the local racoons. I have one cochin left...Betty White from my first flock.
She's from a hatchery but I think she's a doll.
I think he's lavender...seems to be going that way....I have a buff female and another red smooth male same age. I haven't decided if I want to keep them yet.
I had a mottled cochin roo that was a terror... chased me and would bite..
He was rehomed needless to say... and I also had a lavender roo that was a little doll... but he was killed by a dog. I still miss that little fella.... they have such personalities.
that's what I thought but was just making sure. I don't have any cochins roos now just smooth hens so but I will probably rehome the frizzle roos that hatch.
