2015 Peafowl Hatching Support Group - Eggs and Chicks!

I'm in Indiana and not much of humidity recent to speak of til late but the most recent 2 I hatched I did it with Muscovy eggs that I must daily after day 10 and no water in the bator. I didn't have a gauge in there but I would guess on average of 26% then I added a bit of water at lockdown...

I set 2 of the decoy eggs and had 100% hatch rate!! ;) Small # i know but i like the way it sounds! She was then sitting on 5 and after week 2 I took them and am finishing them in the bator. All 5 are alive and well after week 3 ish...my bad for not marking the date...but I'm looking...

I'm so sorry for your losses and for the peas. Sounds quite miserable! I would say you could put them outdoors, make lots of shade, fans and i would say if its an option some misters. Here you can get them relatively cheap at a Lowes, etc. We don't have that kind of heat here but I'm...

I have 1 like this. He is over 2 months old now. I work from home 3 days a week but also have 4 boys!! I just let him out to follow me around as often as possible. Sleep on my lap during evening downtime or ride on my shoulder to do laundry. .or whatever non active household chore you may...

Having brooder mates I'm surprised they are not more calm. Is it just 1 of the 3? I've found if it is theirs something wrong with it. Usually not making it after a week at most. Also check your brooder temps. Should be 95 F for them at their height. Are they panting = Too warm. Try putting...

Yeah I didn't start letting him outside until he was 8 weeks so just this past week and only because it dried up here a lot. If it's rained or wet soil I wouldn't. I have quite a few different birds too that all free range is another reason. I don't have any area that birds haven't been.

I have 1 I've been raising inside and I put multiple roost at different heights and I shopped around in the bird section at petsmart and got him a little mirror with bells. He loves it. I let him out several times a day to stretch his wings. We have a large great room and he flies all over, but...

I have had the same experience. Broody chicken hen with babe's as well as peas with babe's. None of the Peas chickens ducks or turkeys dare bother a momma and her brood. They have all been very respectful of their space including all males of all breeds.

The birth weight you have can't be correct but 2 week weights look good.

Well I didn't get them weighed as momma took them to the roof last night! I was worried sick about it and in shock they got up there. They were out with her this morning so they made it their first night out!

Both of the chicks momma is raising were under 100g at 2 weeks. I need to weigh them again. I'll do that tonight. They were both small at hatch though in comparison to the other 3 that hatched from different parents. What was their starting weight? I would think if they've gained an equal amount...

I've not had that but have had them pip low and I helped. They were successful but it's tricky and you really need to do it only a little at a time. I've also read plenty where others experience was the chick hatched on its own. Tough call. How long has it been pipped internally?

Thanks but no. There are 2 with her and they are from my pair. Little Alli was a egg I got from Louden Farm. The one pictured is a BS and the other an IB but I think she's under momma in the pic. I weighed them last night and the BS went from 59 g to 80 g. The IB was 55 g and now 66g. They...

She weighed in at 60g which I thought small considering the other two I had to compare but after weighing the 2 with the broody today they are at 55g for the IB and 59g for the little yellow chick which I'm guessing is a IB BS. I did go ahead and put Alli with the broody and her 2 chicks but...

Vet visit for "Alli" went well. It's not brain or an infection. They've never seen it before but did pull fluid but said it was mostly blood. Viewed under a microscope. So she stated we should just wait it out and discuss removing if we choose once "she's " bigger and can handle the anesthesia...

I couldn't handle the stress of momma and babe wandering around. She had left the nest area. I spotted them in the flower bed then I had to go on a search. She was nestled on the ground along the woods. I snatched up babe and momma followed. I set up a large kennel in the garage and put the...

My IB hen has finally hatched both her babes 1 yesterday and the other was there when I checked this morning. The 1 yesterday I watched from the window above to see it sitting by itself while momma positioned the other egg. The babe wasn't moving so I went and got it. Brought into the house...
