Hi Laura,
I just popped in here to thank you. I just love your website and your poultry articles. I have referred many people to them and they are always appreciative. Thank you so much for all you do!

Punkster: you are becoming quite the Buckeye expert. I predict one day, you are going to be the country's foremost Buckeye breeder / go-to person. I hope you stick with the breed for life.
I agree with you, Chris. Isn't it great to see this?! Good for you, Punky!
Excuse me for a minute, while I am
Punky, I just wanna say .......
I really like you! You research, you question, you share, you are relentless .....
I sure like you!
Jen,
That poster looks great. You have done a wonderful job. Your birds are true winners, and you should be proud. They look wonderful. I am so happy for you!
Congratulations!

Jen, thanks so much for doing that! Wow, 20 entries, excellent! Best of luck at the show, and let us know how you do.
My daughter reports that there are actually 31 buckeyes! I don't know how many of which.
I got 1st 2nd and 4th cockerel, #1 rooster, (condolences Jim), and #1 young...

Janet, Have you been to Sedalia shows before? I went to one there (only show I have ever been to), but it was very small. Mostly bantams (mostly Silkies, actually). I may have to go and check this one out. Do you know how big it will be?
Anyway, good luck to you!
These Buckeyes have really grown on me. In downsizing I had them on the list to go. However, we have decided to keep a pen of them. Honestly, they are very friendly and chatter all the time. They free range, and when they see us come outside they run up to greet us. I gotta say, I really do like...

Laura,
As a matter of fact, I had a necropsy done. It came back totally clean, with not even a parasite or a worm (though there was pieces of glass found?). They told me it was, "an acceptable" loss, and that I should expect to lose some birds. (I don't understand that either)...

Well, the SOP calls for 9 pound cocks and 6 1/2 pound hens, so yours seem to be quite overwight then, correct?
12 - 14 pounds? AND, you say they are smaller than your BCMarans and Chanteclers?????
I am sure mine are overweight, they have free choice all day and night, I could make...

You aren't the only one, Germaine. I have heard the same story from others, as well. I have several breeds of chickens, and the Buckeyes have been the least hardy in my experience. Out of 18, I have only 10 or 12 left.

I just don't understand this either. I mean .... Buckeyes are "just chickens," right? Why is it that some say they require different feed than other chickens? I really do not understand this.
Scott,
My one Alpha Buckeye rooster is in a pen with about 20 roosters. They are all the same age, and raised together (Orps, RIRs, Buckeyes) but he is the obvious Alpha. He is a very good rooster, and keeps them all in line, however, he is not mean at all. He greets me at the gate and has...
Of course, now I remember! I thought it said, Missouri under your name before, so I was not sure I recalled your BYC ID correctly. I may have some for you. I will PM you.
