I am a serious amateur photographer in addition to raising waterfowl and operating a taxidermy business. My experience has been that if you are worried about your images being stolen, it is best to not post them on the web. Those watermarks directly across the subject render the picture...
Here's a recap of the breeding season I had. All my birds are first year birds. My wood duck laid 16 eggs, of which 7 hatched. To my surprise, 3 of the 7 were white. I didn't even know the parents were splits. Of those 7, 3 regular and 1 white are all that lived. The ones that died had...
Another couple questions here. I have 2 white wood ducks and 1 NA pintail that are 4 weeks old in a brooder. The pintail is getting really big and feathering out well. The wood ducks are feathering too, but 1 of them is half the size of the other. When can I safely release them into the pen...
Wood ducks can be somewhat difficult to get them eating. Sprinkle food on the floor of the brooder and onto the ducklings themselves. I feed mine starter crumbles and boiled egg yolks. Live meal worms can also be good, but it is hard for me to get them locally since the reptile store closed...
No eggs hatched today...I'm thinking they aren't going to hatch. My drake pintail has a problem with his penis. After breeding once, I saw the hen grab it and nibble/pull on it. Now, he walks around with it hanging out. He can pull it back in, but will let it hang out for a while. I believe...
I lost one of the regularly colored woodies, but the rest seem to be fine. My woodie hen is still sitting on some eggs, but I don't know if they are good or not. My pintail hen also hatched a baby out yesterday....hoping the rest hatched today.
That is a piece of cedar shaving that was stuck to one of them. These pics were taken just a few minutes after removing them from the nest. BTW, when I picked the parent birds up from the breeder, I remember seeing silver woodies and apricot woodies, but no other "mutated" birds....no white...
Ok...had my first wood duck babies hatch today. There were 7 that hatched. 4 of them are dark colored (normal) and there are 3 that are yellow colored. The only other cavity nesters I have are mandarins (saw her in the woodie nest) and fulvous tree ducks (bred, but not laying). Are mandarin...
I posted this on another forum, but I really would like to get all the opinions I can.
I am new to raising waterfowl as this is my first season breeding them. I have a wood duck hen that has been sitting on her eggs since Apr 16 (11 days now). Today, I noticed my hen mandarin came out of the...
