My donkeys have stomped a goat who got into their pasture, he's partially paralysed on one side. I also have to watch my dogs as they will go after them. I also think they stomped a muscovy drake years ago and killed him. I've seen them chase feral cats out of the pasture, and my husband saw...
They can be hit and miss sometimes, but in general they keep stuff away. I doubt I could free range without them as the woods around here have lots of coyote living in them.
I've lost 3 muscovy in 20 years to coyote, and one was killed by a hawk. We have donkeys that help with predator protection as well as my hunting husband. I can always tell when something has been coming around as the muscovy will suddenly refuse to leave the shed. They are very smart. Being...
Mine generally won't lay again until May or after here. It has been much milder here too. I will have fun breaking up all the best this year. I do enjoy them, so it's worth it. They are great for bug control. All summer long they are out wandering the yard at night. It's cool to see.
That's a lot of muscovy. My tolerance level is around 10-15. They can be messy birds especially in winter, and hunting down the broody hens in summer is a full time job some years. :)
We did that one year. Let all 5 hens set and hatch. Husband said "let them go". We we ended up with more than 50 muscovy and couldn't sell a single one. We ended up butchering most and I never "let them go" again. Hopefully you have better luck selling than I did.
Last time I let a few hens raise some they took to leaving them all in the shed in a group after the first week or two, than they went out to forage.
I might confine the really young ones for a while even though moms are always interested in getting back outside after they hatch. I used to...
I believe they are all wild type blacks, but I'm not really up,on colors myself.

Here's one site I look at.
I trim all hens that decide to nest in my chicken nestboxes. I trim pretty harshly so they are grounded until the fall molt.
As long as yours aren't going up too high you can clip as much as you want. Either you want to ground them or leave enough for a glide so they don't hurt their legs your...
My muscovy get along with my chickens for the most part with occasional goosing of each other. You can clip a wing on hens to keep them grounded. They will cause wetness around your waterers, and will need at least buckets or pans to take baths in year round. I like them because they are quiet too.
It was. That hen got her wings clipped to keep her out of those boxes. Now I know to watch that end when removing any that want to lay in them. I think they are like skunks and use that poop as a defense mechanism. It works on me. :sick I can't use that emoticon enough.
