Woke up this morning to 2 more healthy babies, 1 dead (had unabsorbed yolk on outside of his stomach) 1 had pipped and zipped, but it was at pointy end of egg and died before it could get out, and 1 that is nearly dead looks like it's guts are hanging on the outside (poor thing). Nothing I can...
4 chicks, 1 zipping, half a dozen or so pips....come on chickies
KDbeads how is the little one doing?
PS....incubating is MUCH more fun when chicks hatch at the end....I believe I am hooked
Congratulations on your new fluffies!
I have 2 new baby chickens and 3 more have pipped. I am surprised they are so early, I wasn't expecting any until Saturday! I will try to get pics as soon as I can.
Also, 1 more quail hatched late last night for a total of 5 out of 21 eggs. I left them...
Total of 4 chicks so far. 1 last night, 2 this morning and 1 while I was at work. 1 looks pipped, but nothing further. Out of 20 eggs not great, but much much better than nothing. I wonder how long I should leave the rest of the eggs in before I give up on them...today is day 19. Nothing...
I have a chick!!!
1 lonely coturnix, but seeing as this is my third try and my very first chick, I'll take it!!!
Hoping he/she has some brothers and sisters joining us very soon
Still nothing out of the quail.....but, I candled some chickens last night when I put them on lockdown and they are still kicking. Humidity was 76% this morning, is that too high? I took a plug out.
So, since I recounted the quail are due today or tomorrow. Still not even a peep out of them.
Karrie-looks like someone posted a thread and they are saying that a day either way doesn't matter too much.
I just counted again, today is day 17...so tonight instead of turning them I am going to go ahead and put on lockdown since quail are due tomorrow or Wed and I have to work so early.
Ok, now I am confused. I put mine in at 5pm Oct 16....should I put mine on lockdown too? I wasn't going to do it until Wed.
Also, I had a temp dip/humidity spike today, things were fine this am 65% humidity 100.00 temp....got home from work 70% humidity 95.8....I hope they are ok.
I will say don't throw any of the glowing ones out. I had trouble with them falling out of the auto turner and breaking. I candled and they glowed like a clear egg, but upon cracking them open there were nearly done chicks in there....don't know for the life of me how they wouldn't have thrown...
Well, I took everything out of the turners, put them into egg cartons and am turning the chickens by propping the cartons up on one side, then switching to the other side 3 times a day. No pips or chirps from the quail yet but they are not due till Tuesday.
Is it too late to join? I had probably half a dozen broken in shipping (including all but 1 duck) but I set 37 black and red giant (whatever that means...thought Jersey Giant, but after reading more there is no red so not sure what I actually got) 1 duck and 30 quail (seller sent as extras) on...
