I named a chicken Gravy. I was having bad luck with the number of roosters I was getting - named them after food to make process day easier - Marsala, Florentine, Cacciatore, Riggie, Parmesan.... I named a favorite chick Gravy to prepare for process day because I love Chicken Gravy. She's a girl...
As long as your humidity and temps are good, don't worry. I always consider pip to hatch as a >24 hour process but am usually surprised by quicker hatchers.
Aww! If I sell some chicks and make room here somewhere I'm getting ducks. I just picked up 6 cornish to raise for meat. I already bit off more than I can chew with them. I know they grow fast and I'll need to house them separate soon.
Definitely not offended. I was upset when the imperfections started coming up with the chickens that hatched from eggs from this particular breeder. I think I have learned my lesson about what questions to ask and really what I want in a flock. I love this rooster regardless of not matching my...

Thanks. I am not easy to offend, and I completely understand the comments about this rooster. The cream gene dilutes red, so if he was mixed with something that had cream that could explain his coloring. The breeder did not have faverolles and he doesn't have even a little bit of...
I watched him hatch from a beautiful blue egg, but I know what you're referring to. The cream in his hackles and saddles is not standard. I have no idea what the breeder had going on. The other rooster from the hatch looks standard, and the hen that hatched with him looks like a standard...
My phone doesn't produce great pics, but I use it more often than my "good" camera. I finally took pics with my "good" camera and I couldn't get the setting to be consistently unblurry. I'll have to work on the cameras a bit, but here are a couple pics:
The picture above is chicks from two...
After looking closely, I realize one stripy chick is Welsummer cross. The other is CCL cross. The other CCL egg must have produced a barred-looking chick.
12/20 chicks - 5 pips - 3 questionable.
The fridgerbator incubates well. MacGyverbator hatches well.
May and June will be tweaking the coops...
My therms always go wonky at some point in the hatch. The thermostat reads steady but the accutherm ranges +- 2-4 degrees. Relaxing it is not, but worthwhile. It has taught me about letting go- letting nature take its course. I'm a meddler, so I'm still not quite wise on that topic yet.
9/20 so far; 5 visible pips. I've pretty much lost track of which chick came from which egg. I know the two CCL Ameraucana crosses look like typical EE stripy chicks, so that's easy. There are a couple with spots on their heads so they're probably my Barred Rock crosses and they're probably...
:P
The first chick to hatch is loud and of course chose to debut at 1 am. DH has a rough schedule tomorrow so I'm hoping this one quiets down for the rest of the night. 5 more hours and they can make all the noise they want. Punks.
Send quiet thoughts, please.
20 went to lockdown - I don't remember when (hectic week) - 4 pips so far and chirping. I think they're officially due tomorrow night or Sunday morning, so I guess they're a bit early. What a week.... :/ I have lost track of myself and y'all. I hope all is well.
20 of my 24 eggs are fertile and still doing well at 14 days. The PR fridgerbator maintains temp and humidity very well. The air cells are right on target. I'll scrub the hatching MacGyverbator soon and get it running for Thursday lockdown.
Sending :hugs to all y'all. Good night.
