I slice them & use them when making stock for soup. If they are tough after cooking just take a slotted spoon & strain them out.You still get the flavor.
It sounds as if pollination might have been the problem. We have 4 bee hives in our field & that has certainly helped with the squash pollination problem.
Please, if you have the other ingredients handy, make this recipe. It is "da bomb"~! We're pulling all the remaining Heirloom plants on Monday & I'm just itching to get into the kitchen to make the 2nd batch this Fall~! Enjoy~!

Thank you soooo much for taking the time & effort to share this with me. I already make Chev're, Feta & Ricotta so I "think" I have a fairly good understanding of the recipe. Thanks again :)
I was in Walmart yesterday...I "know" bad word. However, when you live 40 mile trip from town, you "try " to do all the shopping on the same day & Walmart was close.
Ok, on with the story.....I needed a new pair of slippers. We have tile floors & the winter can be really chilly on bare feet. I...
Is there any way to know when buying cheese if the bucks were with the does the whole time? I guess not unless you know the cheese maker. "Off" taste is putting it mildly.
I'm leary of most commercial products. Find a "good" farmer & your health will be the better for it~! :)
Goat milk is so much better than cow's milk without all the additives. When you buy from a farmer you "know" what is in your milk. Take a look at prices of Cow's Milk. It is sky high & they don't have to label the added ingredients.
I have shipped in the Winter to Colorado. I freeze all my Chev're & put ice packs in the box. Chev're is a cheese that you can defrost in the refer & any unused portion can be re-frozen without a problem.
Thank you so much for the compliment~! Once you have tasted the "real" cheese, you are hooked. I use the Chev're on everything from Pizza, Tacos, Eggplant Parmesan, Lasagna, crumbled on salad, mixed with preserves to spread on bagels, add salsa for a quick dip, etc. You get the picture :) Six...
The reason many people dislike goat cheese is the flavor. The cause of the "off" taste is that many farmers let their Bucks run with the does. When the Bucks are in rut they pee on themselves to entice the does to breed. When they rub up on the girls the stench from the urine transfers to the...
If refrigerated, they will last about a week....no oil on top. Or you can freeze or put them in canning jars & can in pressure canner or water bath for 10 mins. If canned, they will keep forever. I promise you will LOVE the flavor :)
For what it is worth....we grow onions for a restaurant. This year we have 7000 lbs in the drying shed. The restaurant has decided to down-scale their ordering. sooooo what to do with all the onions that will soon start sprouting?
If you have a slow cooker or can borrow one (even 2 or 3) peel...

Thank you, thank you, thank you~! for the wonderful tip on the vacuum bags. I make & freeze goat cheese (chev're) daily & the cost of the bags is"over the top"~! I took your advice & ordered a dozen rolls. They arrived yesterday & I used them for the first time last night. OMG how...
