My Very First Emergency: Egg Bound? Pictures Included

My EE has been laying steady all winter. 2 days on 1 day off or every other day. Never taken more than 1 day off. She is 34 weeks old. She laid her last egg 5 days ago and hasn't laid anything since last Thursday. I was worried about her being egg bound and went out with hubby tonight to examine her. She is eating and drinking fine and doesn't appear droopy.

I have never 'felt up' a chicken before and wasn't sure what to expect. I felt the bottom part of her beast bone and every thing behind that was soft. No obvious hard spot/egg. At least that I could tell. Could it be that I examined her wrong or could she just be taking a break? I give supplemental light for a total of 14 hours a day.

Thoughts or suggestions? I just don't want to miss something and have her get really sick. Help.

Put on glove, add lube and gently insert finger.

I can hear the snap of a glove right now. Hopefully she will still respect me tomorrow. ;)

In all seriousness...what do I feel for? How far in do I go. Just don't want to hurt her. Could I go the wrong direction? If I feel an egg, should I give her a warm bath to see if that helps? She does get supplemental calcium.

If she has an egg you won't have to go in too far, an inch maybe? If you feel an egg, give her some human calcium or calcium Gluconate and she should lay in an hour or two.

Forgot to ask. How much human calcium or calcium gluconate should I administer? I don't want to give too much or too little. Also, how are these prepared? Mixed with water, crushed up, drops? I am not familiar with either of these products. Thanks.

My bigger birds get one or two 500mg tablets orally, banties 1/2 to 1 tablet. The calcium gluconate is liquid and I give about 200-300 mg per 2.2 pounds orally. I don't usually have to do it more than once.

Well I put on the glove, lubed up, and did an exam. Once I finally found the opening, it wasn't too bad. I did not feel any eggs that I could tell. She is still drinking and eating and looks fine.

I remembered that 3 weeks ago I went from 15 hours to 14 hours of light per day. Maybe that caused her to stop laying? She seems really healthy. I have given her oyster shells. Don't know what else to do. Don't know if there is anything else to do?

I have a pullet that's not yet a year old...she doesn't lay regular..she kept getting in and out of the nest..but didn't lay...I didn't feel an egg...cud she be egg bound?
She acts completely normal but its almost like she did when she started laying.
