I cracked an egg tonight for supper and the yolk was so thick almost like it had been par boiled the eggs are at most two days old. I collect every day so they were not sitting in the nest for any length of time. Any suggestions as to what may have caused that? nice deep almost orange in collor

Good food causes it.

Insects, foraged greens and whatever else they're eating. Plus, good quality feed in the feeder. I attribute our nearly-solid raw egg yolks to the hens getting enough of everything they need, including nutrient-dense fats, proteins, and greens. Keep doing what you're doing. Those yolks are a fabulous food for you!

One of my girls lays eggs with yolks so thick they're hard to scramble. Another hen, the white doesn't cling to the inside of the shell like it does in most eggs - it just runs right out.

Not an occasional thing, that's what their eggs are like. Can't say I ever saw a grocery store egg like either of those. Cool, ain't it?

I love these eggs!

My mom sorta commented recently the eggs I've given her make her work hard. I said, "Explain yourself." "Well," she said, "the yolks want to stay intact - they don't want to break apart and mix into the scramble, like store eggs do." LOL.

She is crazy about how good they taste, though.

MY mom complains that they are harder to crack.

Most of mine are harder to crack with a thick deep orange yolk. But everyone that eats them say they are the best eggs they have ever eaten.

MIne are hard to crack also, when I crack a store bought egg, I usaully end up cleaning it up off the counter and floor. it hard to remember no to smack the store boughts so hard.
as for the yolks............. when I make scrambled eggs, I drop the yolk from 12 inches over the pan then it brakes.

warning..... yesterday I made my self a poched egg in the microwave so I put 2 eggs in a glass bowl and poked the yolks with a fork (same as i did when we had only store boughts) well it wasn't enough that I just poked each yolk cause it blew up all over my microwave. then this morning my son wanted the same thing, so this time i beat the yolks good and it still wasn't enough the eggs agian blew up all over my mircowave.

I know what you mean! I was researching what caused my eggs to be this way. It's freezing here and the eggs are getting frozen and then when they unthaw they have this hard yolk like I par boiled it. The white of the egg is completely normal. I throw those eggs away because they are weird. I have had other eggs be just thick yolked and bright orange but this is completely different than the par boil eggs.
