A pic of my sweet boy! I have had to remove two other roosters (Barred Rock's) from my farm when they started chasing everyone except me. This guy has always been sweet and happy to be held. Hope it stays this way!

I'm just getting started with Barnevelders! I visited a breeder in NC and purchased 6 pullets and 2 roosters. All are feathered out and in the coop. Her breeder hens and roosters are very beautiful and had friendly dispositions! I purchased blue double laced, splash, and black. I don't plan on hatching eggs, just provide eggs for our family table. The roosters are beautiful and I think they complete the flock, even if you don't raise chicks, they are protectors of the flock.vivant wait to see what the future holds!

HI,
I picked up these 2 chicks and was told they are Barnevelders. They are pretty beat up from the environment they were living. They are anywhere from 12 - 15 weeks. I would say closer to 12? Any comments, good or bad? I'm hoping they are hens for pets and eggs. Not breeding.

I really can't tell but maybe black barnevelder.I've got one black and she's got gold lacing like yours.they'll improve quickly and you'll never know they had a rough start. Thanks for sharing and good luck.I'll post picture of mine when I figure that out! I would say pullets because my roos are younger than yours and the comb is quite pronounced also red, the gals are much shorter, front to lack, and much paler.

Thank you. They are already doing much better but they are still so small. I had a friend over this weekend whose birds were hatched Memorial Day and her's are alot bigger. I was told these hatched around 4/24. It makes me wonder if they were poorly fed, alot younger or bantams. The other barnevelders on the property were full size. Not a bid deal as I would have still felt the need to resuce them. Time will tell!
