Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

My heart is absolutely broken this morning..... I put 40 eggs in lockdown yesterday. All of my seramas, my turkeys, my Cayuga ducks and SFH were safely in lockdown in my brand new hovabator genesis that I have been running for 3 weeks. I woke up this morning and the heat was out. The fan was on, but the broken thermostat said 59.

Man, I am devastated....I babied those seramas and ducks and they had all made lockdown. I quick put them in with the other incubators. They were still moving around in the egg, but I doubt they will hatch. I am so sad. I am trying to decide all morning about getting a Sportsman. It is so expensive, and like I really need more chicks. But it's really fun and about the only thing I enjoy doing since my mom died. I don't know. For as amazing and fun poultry keeping is, it sure breaks your heart sometimes too.

It is a roller coaster of day-to-day life and death.

So sorry about the eggs. I had made 2 cooler bators and decided to get a Sportsman and use the other 2 for hatchers. I found a used Sportsman on craigslist and it was only $250 and in great shape. The guy included a bunch of egg racks and other stuff so it was a really good deal.

I know that can happen with any incubator but that is horrible! I sure hope they hatch. If they were still moving around they have a very good chance. I had little giant incubators last year and upgraded to 2 sportsmans I found on Craigslist in great shape. I just hope the thermostat don't ever go out (yeah right)- at least not when I can't catch it while I am at home.

don't lose hope profti

Good morning, everyone. Congrats Mzstre on the OD. I am so hoping the three you sent me hatch!

TN, love the kids.

Gabble, wonderful birds. Who else, oh yeah.

DM, good luck on the solid black rock. I have some on Brookhavens coming. I am excited. There is no comparison between my poor ratty hatchery BR and those!

The Good Shepard BR are just enormous birds so pretty can't wait to get a whole flock. She has GSBR pullets so the barring should be nice. I can breed the blue pullets back to my GSBR. I have some more hatching eggs coming from tigercreek too so I should have a diverse gene pool to work with but still closely related.

I need more pens so I can play with ALL the birds I want. I am going to have a GSBR Pen, a Blue Barred Rock Pen, Blue and black pen and Partridge and SP....... WOW that is a lot of rocks and JUST Rocks

I have the same problem with dottes too. White, SLW, BLRW, SPW bantams, Choc...... hum something else.... Then there are the marans and other projects I want to work on. Maybe 30 pens would be enough and 4-5 BIG grow out pens.

slowly but surely I am getting myself in trouble.

VERY good chance you will still have a decent hatch- just a little later

Oh I am do relieved. The seller of those eggs just write me back and was very apologetic. I so wasn't up for fighting over damaged eggs so I am glad she is being nice about it.

Well I sent that's safe I posted above as well as the pictures so I sure hope she works with me. I am not web asking for a full refund. I understand the shipping charge is kind of my responsibility since all returns from companies are "you pay return shipping" Nd I am going to try to set the 4 eggs that don't have goo on them, but I do think she should return the rest of the money.

How many eggs were in that box? I can ship up to 9 (but not 9 marans) in those boxes but I use lots more padding and I make sure the eggs can't move. I don't think I have had any unusual losses from using those boxes for small qtys. I pack the little box the same as I do a big box. Good luck, I would replace the eggs if it was that bad.
