Hens with swollen eye/face? HELP please.

So, I went out to my coop this morning and Honkie, our hen lowest on the pecking order, had one of her eyes swollen and red. She hadn't been acting weird otherwise, so I figured he may have gotten a peck to the eye. When I came home today, two of my other girls had the same issue. One has some nasal discharge, but not the other 2. I quarantined them for the time being, because the only things I could find that sounded similar were mycoplasma and coryza, and maybe it's just an eye infection? Anyway, I would really appreciate any help...it's hard to watch my girls sick

Some other info: I put down fresh pine shavings yesterday. Could it be dust or allergy related? Also, I live in florida and the weather has been crazy! Cold, hot, and it rained all day yesterday. Maybe stress related?

I would guess it's some kind of sickness and not stress. We had the same thing, and in some, the eye got really bad. A few died. A couple were left blind in that eye. Some we treated with Tylan50, some we didn't, and we notice a difference. I did not get it looked at by anyone, but it sure seemed like infectious coryza. Basically we let it run it's course and they have all been improving and have started laying again. I know what you mean by seeing them sick...very disheartening.

Thanks a lot...so you reccomend Tylan? Or don't reccomend it?

Frankly it seemed to make no difference to ours, and we stopped using it. I don't think it would hurt you to dose with Tylan, and it might help. Worth a try. Really, without getting it correctly diagnosed by an avian vet, it's all guesswork.

NO!!!! Get it!! Please. When I first started raising chickens and bought them from the flee market it was winter, After about 2-3 days here they all ended up like that. Exactly!! I have many of them in the ditch. Until a friend I meet who has like 300 chickens told me how to fix it.

First: Get them away from everybody else. DO NOT put them in the house. I had some in the house for 2 weeks and never got better. They really need to be outside. When it was cold at night i would put them in the shed. I used a very big dog metal carrier. Put a stick so they can roost on. Enough room for food and water.

Secondly: Get Tylan 50. Do not give the recommended dose of 1/2 cc shot for 3 days. You will be wasting your time. Give them 1cc just under the skin of the breast. Make sure no blood is coming into the needle.

Thirdly: Get some VetRx. Put a good drop in each nostril. Then rub it in,. So they breathe it in. Then put 3 drops down there throat. The water bowl put 5 drops in it. Do this part every day.

In 2-3 days she will be back scratching and moving around. After about the third or fourth day she will be able to go back with the rest. If I could post a vid here I would. Of the ones I saved. This will work!!! Worked every time. Please give it a try. I would not tell you to do it if it hasn't worked for me sooooo much.

What I found it has a lot to do with the time of year (weather/Stress). Don't count either out. Please give this a try and let me know how it went.

Here. This is what my 2 hens looked like. They now are my best hens 1 1/2 years later. 2 days after I got them.

Started the routine today. Thanks so so much for your advice! I'll keep you posted on how they do. Already starting to seem a little better.

I have only been raising chickens for 1 1/2 years. But one thing I really do know is that sickens. Like I said. Please keep them outside. These in the vid were inside and would never get better but no worse until I moved them outside in the sun and fresh air. 3 days later up and scratching around. In winter here in SC. Fresh air does wonders for them and us.

Please let me know day by day. Would really like to know.

Update: eyes seem less swollen and definitely less red. Two are scratching around ad talking a lot more. Definitely aren't acting as sick. The third, it's hard to tell. She still stands around with her eyes closed quite a bit, but, like I said, it's hard to tell if she's any better. All three seem to be eating and drinking as normal. If anything changes throughout the day, I'll update.

That sounds awesome!!! The third just may take a day or two longer. But If they are up and scratching that means it's working. Just keep giving them that VetRx everyday. I found they can change from one hour to next.
