Waking up this morning, I noticed one of my 2-1/2 week old chick was shaking its head and opening its mouth in what others would describe as "Gaping?" It did this for several hours. I added some DE (Food Grade Diatamaceous Earth) to the Medicated Chick Starter before reading that this will not work for internal parasites.

(Chicks was obtained from an independent feed store)

After spending all morning reading what it could possibly be, majority said the symptoms could be food stuck in the coop or gape worm.

Some said check by using a q-tip where others state it won't show anything. So I do not feel comfortable jamming a Q-tip down a chick's throat if it isn't going to be conclusive.

Being Easter Holiday, everything is closed, so I don't think it will die before I can go to the store to buy Wazine & Valbazen tomorrow.

Now my questions are:

Wazine 17 was recommended on BYC to give 10 days prior before treating with Valbazen (500 mg).

But if my chick has gape worms, would I be better off to give Valbazen first?

The dosage given for Wazine 17 was 1 oz per gallon in water. Is this the dosage for a chicken or a chick? Chick dosage? How many times per day to give and for how many days?

Valbazen dosage-- give 1/2 cc for standard size chicken and 1/4 cc for a small size chicken. What is a chick dosage? How many times per day to give and for how many days?

Assume you are talking to a dummy...I don't want to mess up giving them these wormers.

Thank you.

Note: One RIR Chick is 2-1/2 weeks old that is shaking head & Opening Mouth
Also have RIR Chicks 7-1/2 weeks old -- dosage for them too as a precautionary
