The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Well, usually, I give a bigger bird like a rooster or a huge Orp hen 2 baby aspirin the first go-round and one the next day then I stop for a few days and continue if it seems necessary. A less heavy hen will get one 81 mg. every time. But, in that mixture, I crushed three 326 mg regular aspirin and stirred it around so no way to know who got what. I figured Atlas would get some, but I don't think he touched it at all. He's better when I pick him up, but he protests more when Tom does. He's a big mama's boy. I admit, I take advantage of having to treat him to cuddle him and talk in his ear a little, tell him how good he is. He seems to enjoy that, or at least, he tolerates my attentions, LOL.

Thanks for dosage advice Cyn. I will make a note of it and put it in my medicine box. Good to hear that Dottie is back with Atlas' flock!

So what you are saying is that you equipped Dottie with everything but a suit of armor, and a broadsword. LOL!
Um, well, yeah! Have to protect my sweet girl. I'm so happy she seems back to normal now. Gosh, love that hen!

Glad to help. Yes, I'm really happy she recovered. Hope there is not a replay of that with her or any other hen in his group. None are laying except Lizzie and Tessa. Wonder if Dottie will return to her broody self now.

I may get a chance to test fertility in the BR coop. My beautiful almost five year old EE hen, Maretta, seems to be going broody. She screams and clucks and acts agitated like she normally does when Broody Crazy is on the way. She hasn't raised chicks in over a year so she's pretty much due, I guess. Dottie snapped out of hers when she was hurt so if Maretta begins sitting, I will let her have eggs from the BR hens, including Tessa and Lizzie. At least three hens other than those young gals are laying. I know Wynette is one of them. The originals will be 5 years old in April, hatched same time as Maretta herself did, so not young hens anymore. I have to get what I can from them before they're gone.

Poor Atlas is molting and during their shut-in time with the bad weather, those wenches plucked both sides of his neck. Guess the loose feathers were more than they could resist. He already lost his long sickles.

I hope they're fertile! I haven't seen what I'd say was a definite bullseye when I've checked their eggs, but I hope it's just my eyes.

When you said "I have plenty of eggs for her" I got a mental picture of you putting a pyramid of 30 eggs under her, and her begging you for Prozac.
