Took in a chick that was found on the street, where I live you always see abandoned chickens out and about anyways, what color and/or breed could it be?? They are black with white underside, and the fathers have red/brown tips. And will it be ok alone? I don't have any other babies only adults.
We took in a stray/abandoned baby rooster but cannot keep him. I'm unsure of his breed but he's in good health and a happy little guy. I would guess he's around 10 weeks old.
Please reach out if you're interested or know anyone who may be.
We're in Austin, TX.
Thanks!
I decided to give my broody hen some hatching eggs and then a second hen started to sit right along with her. They only successfully hatched 1 egg yesterday. I was hoping for mother nature to take its course and it seemed like one of the hens was going to take care of her, but now it seems...
Hi, we had a hen hatch some chicks on her own. She has been a super attentive mama. But this evening when I went out to feed the chickens the two chicks were frantically looking for her… would she abandon them? It was the strangest thing. I will look for her tomorrow… we have 30 hens so… they...
Hello awesome chicken people!
So, here’s the story: Got a text from my friend that she ran into some people in town who had this chick with them. According to them, the mama and all the other babies were hit by a car (:hit) and this one was left. Being a Chicken Mama, I drove down to pick...
My hen has hatched 3 chicks but abandoned a 4th since the others are now 2 days old and need to leave the nest to eat and drink. The abandoned chick is only partially hatched and still needs to absorb some yoke. Is it best to let it die since I found it quite weak? It chirps at me, but doesn't...
We live in Willington CT and let our chickens free range in our yard. Today we came home and it seems that someone dropped off a chicken in our yard. Any guidance of what we should do will be greatly appreciated. We could support another chicken but we are afraid it is a rooster and if someone...
Hello everyone.
I found a baby chicken outside in my backyard, there was no mother around at all, I even waited 40 minutes. No sign of a mother. I brought him (or her) in and put the chick in a box, I researched what to do and fed it some wet mushy cat food. (I have two cats but I'm keeping the...
My broody silkie has hatched 4 chicks and the 5th was a late hatcher and took 3 days longer. She actually buried the egg underneath the hay yesterday and I had to search around for it. It had a pip so I put it under her and again last night she had abandoned it. So I placed it under her once...
So if you saw my last thread you would've known leah was hatching eggs. They hatched yesterday. Today at 12:45 we noticed she was standing outside her box, still puffy and looking and them. She is still there now. Did she abandon them? We have been handling them, could that result in her leaving...
Hi all,
Unbeknown to me, we had a broody hen (year old) which my sons left some eggs under over a period of a week or so... When i realised, i made sure that no more went under - we had about 14. Chick 1 hatched 3 weeks ago and we have had a few eggs kicked out and broken due to being off...
We recently lost a nest of guinea eggs to a neighborhood dog, the eggs we saved were out under our broody chicken. She has hatched 2, one chicken, one guinea.
The chick looks ‘normal’ with the exception that it does not have the use of 1 leg. The leg is at an odd angle and the chick hobbles...
I went out last night to check on my broody and oh dear, she got off her nest and took already hatched babies to a different location. I found one baby with the yolk sack still attached, cold almost dead and another pipped egg cold almost dead.
I got them straight into the incubator and looked...
My name is Amber. I have had chickens for a year and a half but am new at hatching chicks. I live in Alabama and have 5 bantams and a mallard. I solely have these chicks and ducks for the love of them. They are like my children. I am seeking knowledge and advice. We naturally hatched...
