Hi everyone!!!
We bought a home 3 years ago that came with 5 RIR after I begged the owners to let me keep them.
I fell in love with chickens and so we bought 5 more baby chicks this past St Patty's day 2018.
I got 2 black sex links, 2 buff orphingtons and one Dominique. They are growing so...
Hello, I am new to this form and this is my first post.
I have a almost 8 week old buff oripington and he has very red comb but no tail. I just want to make sure if he is really a he.
And when will the buff oripington start to crow? I have a 16 weeks old silkie male which just started crowing in...
Can anyone identify this chick breed. I bought 10 from a supply store under the assumption they were buff Orphington chicks. They are not. I am not sure what they are. They are just under 3 weeks old.
5 week old buff Orpingtons! Daisy and ducky. Dasiy seems to be bigger than the other, bigger comb, and longer tail. Ducky has less pink in her comb and a shorter tail. Do I have a boy on my hands? Thank you for your knowledge.
Ok, so I'm a BRAND NEW chick mama. Never before owned an animal that was not a dog, cat, or fish! Our first day in we lost one of our 10 Buff Orpington's. Tiny was about 1 week old and it was traumatizing for me. 6 hours after getting her home she just died...I think she was stressed from her...
3 week old buff Orpington, Daisy. I have 2 and they both have combs coming in. Didn’t get 2nd photo because Ducky isn’t as friendly. I’ve looked at full grown hens and they have a small comb, but is there any chance this could be a indication of a cockerel? Thank you!!!
Short version: Please identify these chicks!
Long version: I asked for 3 Barred Rock Pullets from Tractor Supply and went home with them. The next day I visited another Tractor Supply location and saw that two of my "Barred Rocks" looked like their chicks that were labeled "Sussex." I showed...
Can anyone help me identify these hens?? I’ve had them since chicks, and they were “supposed” to be speckled Sussex (though the one I knew for sure was a Sussex sadly didn’t make it). These birds have no white speckles but have not yet molted. I have three of them - from Murray McMurray.
My...
Hello BYC Family!
I've got a pretty broad random question for you all. So I'm looking at raising a flock (from scratch) my last flock were sadly killed by coyotes while being watched by my parents while I was traveling for work :hit:hit...so im looking at starting a mixed flock this time...
Hi! I have two buff Orpingtons I’m becoming obsessed with. Can anyone tell their sexes? I have labeled the photos of the two birds #1 and #2. I hope this is clear.
Please tell me they are pullets!! Nearly 4 wks old.
Thanks!
Hey y'all. I have wanted chickens forever and my county ordinance just changed so my dreams could come true. I felt like I did a ton of research and was pretty prepared until I brought these babies home. I had chosen to go with the heating pad mock hen as a heat source but couldn't get the temp...
Hi there! Newbie here...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes! Totally new! Maybe a bit nuts??! Just brought home a dozen 4H chicks on Friday.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
12. Planning to keep just the hens (tho I suspect I may already be most...
We are new to Chickens and EVERYTHING that comes with it. My Polish has been "suffering" for the last 2 weeks. He started with a "March walk" , now it toes are curled, if he stands us he is wobbly, he can barley walk and more so than not, his legs slide from him. My husband took him to the...
Hi all,
Sorry I had to post this again, I couldn’t figure out how to edit my 1st post.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had a Buff Orp Rooster I could borrow/have/buy? I have a buff orp hen & I would like to get some fertile eggs to hatch.
Thanks again!!

Chick 2chick 2 chick1/chick2 Chick 1 Hey everybody,
I just hatched my first chicks from my backyard flock. Only two hatched and I’m having trouble figuring out if they’re roosters or pullets. Although I have my suspicions, I wanted a second opinion. I’ll post some pictures of the two...
The other day I noticed my buff Orpington hen was huddled by herself while the rest of the flock foraged around. I went over to investigate and noticed she had a pale comb. She won’t eat, she won’t drink and she’s barely moves. She is separated from the rest of the flock until I can figure out...
Hi there, I’m Mac and i am looking for a buff Orpington pullet that is ready to lay, for sale in Texas. Also considering shipping depending on how far it would be shipped from and costs along with it. I’m new to raising chickens and hoping to get to know the community around here better. Thank...
I have a large buff orphington rooster with huge waddles and comb. I went out tonight to find him agitated and shaking his head back and forth. Upon further examination it seems that he has severe frostbite on his waddles and comb. The tips of his comb is black, but I am more concerned about...
