Hello,
Thank you all for taking the time to look at this post! I am brand new to the chicken world, and having trouble determining the gender of this little one.
Its a blue old English Bantam, 9 weeks old and is the only chick in my young flock with red comb and wattles. What do you think?
I have a healthy leg horn for a few years now. She has always had a floppy comb. But all of a sudden, her comb turned pale and now completely blocks her eye site on one side. Her disposition has changed and has become much more skittish and now tilts her head to the side. Is there a remedy to...
Dear all,
My serama/bantam chicken is 2 years old now. Its been more than 6 months he’s suffering yellow and white spots on his comb. Day by day, it gets harder and spots are increasing.
Sent to the vet, but the doctor said those are dandruff. I doubt that.
I’ve tried applying herb medicine...
My hen has a very swollen comb. We also have a case of scaley mites in our coop, so I thought that was the issue and have been treating it as so, but the swelling has not gone down now for a few days. Could it be a sting? I'm worried it's something more serious - she has been acting normal...
I have a 5 mo. old Leghorn that was a victim of an over zealous rooster that got rehomed yesterday. :hit I've been putting antibiotic ointment on it for a couple weeks. When I first noticed it there was just a couple little nicks in it but I'm of the pro-active type and wanted to head infection...
Hello,
We got 10 SLW chicks this spring, and my brother and I will be showing some at our county fair this summer. Here's the scoop: Some of them have rose combs, and some have small single combs. Are the ones with single combs showable? Thanks!
Hello Everyone,
On June 7, 2018 my Blue Andalusian laid her first egg. It was oddly long, but roughly the size of a normal store bought egg. Ever since she laid her first egg, her egg size has been decreasing. I don’t know what a “normal” size egg is supposed to look like, being new to raising...
This is not an emergency, but I have a hen with no comb left. My question is will it grow back? If not, how can I help it? Story: I found my hen hiding under a ramp and thought it was just dying. But then discovered it wasn't dying so I shoo'd it out back into the yard and one of the other...
Just noticed some black spots on my 12 week old blue Wyandottes (?) comb. They weren’t always there! Is it just the coloring of her comb or something wrong?!
Everyone will probably be very frustrated with me, as I have NO CLUE as who the dad of this chick is. The mom is an unknown breed from TSC that BYC and myself couldn't figure out either.
This is the mother who sadly passed away.
Anyway back to my question, what kind of comb is that supposed...
When do polish roos start to show signs of a comb? Mine are still way too young to sex (3 weeks) but I'd like to know when to start looking for it. Thank you!

Betty (Benny)
Hi yall! Ive been researching comb genetics and kind of know the basics. However, how do you identify combs on day old chicks? I have my easter eggers hatching at the moment and am having a hard time identifying comb types and which is which breed. My chicks are out of my Easter egger rooster...
My nearly 1 year old Rhode Island Red/New Hampshire Red rooster, Pierce, is having another issue. We got past the frostbite this past winter, and its been between 40-85 degrees here this whole month.
I saw today that aside from a few little tiny black dots on his comb, he now has a large black...
I don't know if this is in the right section (it's not serious which is why I didn't put this in emergencies/diseases).
Anyway, is Neosporin safe to use on a chicken's comb? The active ingredients are bactracin, neomycin, and polymycin. I do not see any -caine ingredients.
Thanks for the help!
I have 3 Polish chicks I think approximately one month old. They are not yet fully feathered, but two appear to have little bumps forming on their head at the front of their crests. I think it's the start of combs. At what age do they usually start developing? Do they develop earlier on Roos or...
One of my hens has a droopy comb with scab like marks on it that have been there as long as I have had her. I received this chicken along with my two other laying hens on 12/22/17. She shows no signs of discomfort and acts/seems very healthy! In Fact she is the more dominant bird of the three...
So I've had some issues with my chickens recently. It's been a rough weekend. You can see the backstory here. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/dead-chicken-sleepy-others-how-to-treat-with-corid-edited-with-pictures-help.1228108/#post-19701748
Anyway now I've seen several of them doing a...
My friend has a EE chicken that is about 1 year old and seems to have an infected comb, in the means that it is round and about the size of a sunflower seed, but the shape of one. Over the past few weeks, it has been increasing in size, and has scabs on it that are possibly from her friends...
