Any suggestions on adding ventilation to my coop
(Pictures are from today while I was cleaning it the first 4 are of the inside with the doors off and the last one is a front view of the coop with the doors on)
The coop is in progress now! Brooder setup in the corner so we can move the flock from the tote in the house finally 😂
I wanted a standing height inside for easy cleaning, so we made use of an old concrete slab to design on - hopefully that will help keep things cooler in the summer. And then...
I finished my new coop a few months ago and now am realizing it might be nice to add a poop board to keep the coop a little cleaner any suggestions on how to do that
(Picture of roost below)
A little background for me. I have about 4 years of raising chicken experience. All in Appalachia. I now live on Big Island Hawaii (where there IS a such thing as free chicken!).
My question is this, how would you design a coop for your birds if you had no worries of predators or cold temperatures?
I have a wooden kids playhouse I'm planning on converting to a coop for 4-6 chickens (average size breeds, like Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks). They would have access to an enclosed run all day, and only be confined to the coop at night. My main concern is how much ventilation to add. The...
I have 3 chickens. They are 7 weeks old and size of my coop is 4.2 cubic feet. I have a diagonal roost with length of 2.2 feet and 1.4 feet away from walls and an angle of 45 degree. They have a bowl of water with Apple cider vinegar in it and a commercial feeder with 12 cubic inch of feeding...
Of course I have already pored over dozens of threads on this subject! But since we all have different spaces and limitations to work with, I thought I'd toss my situation out there in case some of you have some excellent ideas 💡
We LOVE our coop, it's very well made, and extremely...
Good morning!
I have chicks that are almost 5 weeks old. They are about to make their maiden voyage to the coop this next week, but I've noticed that they are wasting a majority of their food. We have the basic hanging feeder with slots but it's not hanging, it's just sitting on some bricks...
I've had chickens off and on my whole life. Which means I have lost my fair share of birds to predators.
I haven't lost a bird yet with my latest hybrid coop/tractor design.
How I Designed my Hybrid Coop/Tractor
It's still a work in progress, but I would love feedback.
I was thinking about replacing the pine shavings in my coop with sand instead, but is sand really that much better? Wouldn't it produce dust which lingers in the air? Also, would chickens bathe in sand? If so, it could get in the other chicken's eyes. One last thing, wouldn't it be cold for...
Building my dream chicken coop. And although it’s a crappy time to build with lumber prices being so high, I’m rather excited for the finished product. Stay tuned. I will post pictures as I go along. Some may say the finished product is over the top. If you’re one of those people, move along...
So I recently have been improving my coop since the coop I have was too low to the ground and the chickens try to sleep on top of it every night and I have to manually put them to bed each night. So I built a 2ft frame to place the whole coop and run on top of and added some roosting bars. Also...
Update: Coop is officially finished! Gave it a good coat of poly inside and out and got the roosts installed. Now to make the run >_<.
It's been 3 years now I've spent designing this coop and run and clearing the space in my tiny yard to make it possible. My goal is 3-4 hens. The coop was...
Hi friends! I have a 9x12 coop. I’m trying to figure out ventilation. We’re adding it this spring to the coop. Where is the best places to have ventilation? We were going to add windows, but I know that there can’t be drafts by the roosts.
Hi. We are getting 8 chicks at the end of April. So it is time to design our Coop, get feedback. The goal is have a set design so I can get a material build list made and picked up and let us weekend warrior this coop over 6 weeks.
I'm in Oregon, Willamette Valley, it is wet, like wet-wet, so...
Hello
I have been meaning to make a post with pictures of our coop for a while now, finally got around to doing it! It is a bit of a mess, so apologies...
I was not able to get any measurements, but when I do I will update this post!
We made our coop design a bit different from your average...
Three weeks ago we salvaged a neighbor's coop, which jump started our chicken-raising by at least six months -- we were planning to start next year (since we are still living in a camper...)
Thursday our 24 chicks arrived from Ideal Hatchery! (7 each Welsummer, Australorp, Silver-Laced...
I am looking for some help. I have wanted to build a coop where I currently live for some time now and I’m finally getting to it. After quite a bit of searching, I decided on the Wichita Cabin coop. I am fairly handy. I can follow a set of plans pretty well. The plans for the Wichita coop...
So we decided build a whole new coop for our 3 pullets. I really needed one that I could walk in to and clean without bending and wincing. Getting old perhaps. Hubby has of course over engineered it. It’s a tractor but very heavy so not sure how much I will move it. It is pretty simple but...
