I’m super stressed , this one has crowed around 83o in the morning I have no idea how old or if it’s a hen or rooster, and I don’t like the idea I have to give pearl up. I live in the city where you can’t have roosters. Any ideas of age or hen or rooster? Thanks in advance!
So I have a frizzled cochin chick about 4 months old. I dont know if its a hen or roo yet (if you can tell by the picture please let me know) but I was wondering how the frizzle gene works. If its a hen will she pass the gene down to her chicks? What about if its a roo? I do know that you can't...
I bought these two chicks as “Cuckoo Marans” from TSC. 🧐
I’m guessing Sapphire Gems or something similar? Also, the combs are still super duper small but are those red waffles coming in strong trying to tell me something? Nearly 6 weeks old.
Any guesses for gender and breed?
Hello Everyone!,
New to this forum but I have 4 already laying hens for a little over a year now and just recently got 4 more "hens" but I am questioning my Bluebell Prairie that is about 6-7weeks now. Cleo is very friendly and curious, loves to be held or roost on your hand, and gets along...
I got this chicken from a swap advertised as a hen. It was born in early December. So far I haven’t heard any crowing, but her tail feathers are looking very full. I also think I see some tiny saddle feathers coming in (maybe like an inch long?). I was also told after the fact that barred rock...
First time chicken owner. My chickens are 15 weeks old now. I’m pretty positive it’s a hen, however, this one has been fighting since I put it outside. There’s no comb development yet and no crowing. All my silkie Roos have combs and have crowed already. Thoughts?? Is she just trying to...
This is Barbara. We purchased her as a pullet when she was 3 weeks old. We started to have our doubts a couple weeks ago, and are wondering if she may be a rooster. Hoping some of
you more experienced chicken keepers can share your opinions.
Hello! I have my first batch of babies from a broody hen. It was an exciting experience. I have a feeling I have one Roo... but could there be more? These babies are about 5 weeks. They are a cross of olive egger and black Maran Thanks for your help! 😊
I have two questions. I thought I had purchased a speckled Sussex from anoka Ramsey farm and garden in MN. I believe it is around 6 weeks old.
1. Are there varieties of speckled sussex? I thought there’d be some blue and white flecks in its feathers. Is there still time for that to grow in? Or...
This chick is 6 weeks old. I’m wondering about the feathers along the neck. Does that determine if it’s a rooster? Or do hens sometimes have pointed feathers there? Very sweet bird. No other male behavior or crowing (yet?)

I really hope my speckled sussex is a Margaret 🤞 It's 8 weeks old and since I have no other speckled sussex chickens for comparison I'd love to get everyone's expertise. Thanks 🙂

Think I have 2 roos but my lavendar one has pretty much no waddles but a red comb. My Brahma I’m pretty certain is a roo unfortunately. Let me know what you think!! :)
Hi! New member and new chicken owner. My 2 Australorps will be 7 weeks tomorrow. We purchased them both from a local farm. Lucy (or Lou) has the beginnings of a red comb and a red waddle. I read that cockerels grow theirs early. For comparison, our other Australorp Lily, who is the same age, has...
My family and I are new to chickens and we were told that our Rhode Island Red was a hen, but we’re not so certain now. She/he is approximately 14 weeks old and hasn’t crowed or anything, but is bigger than our other hens and has a much larger comb/wattles. If you have a guess, we’d love to hear it!
