I see on the list there are 2 MI breeders and only one has chickens. Can anyone refer me to any other breeders in Michigan? NOT hatcheries please. The Thumb/Mid-Michigan region would be best really anywhere in the LP is worth a look see.
If it is helpful, these are the particular breeds I am...
Does anyone out there raise and breed their own heritage meat birds and can ship and sell them as chicks? I heard the heritage breeders have a lot better stock than the hatcheries. I am in Idaho.
I am curious to see what breeds you guys would recommend for me as I'd like to start raising chickens for some meat as well (and I have also spent lots of time searching the forums here). I live in Wisconsin, so winter hardiness is important, and on ten acres.
My primary purpose for my birds...
Back Story:
So 6 years ago I bought some large fowl wheaten ameraucanas chicks from neighbors, they purchased their stock from John Blehm.
I also bought some heritage large fowl barred rocks that fall, I believe from Kraig Shafer at the Ohio Nationals.
While all were pinned together I had...
i have had turkeys, chickens and ducks for years. Turkeys for meat and chickens and ducks for eggs. This spring i ordered heritage breed turkeys (Blue Slate) and slaughtered all but 1 tom and 3 hens. I would like them to naturally breed and raise their young. I would like to harvest all eggs...
Hellow all,
I currently have 5 heritage turkeys for sale. We ordered several in an attempt to get a breeding pair, wouldn't ya know it, we got all Toms! I currently have 2 burbon red toms, 2 royal palm toms, and 1 blue slate tom i would like to sell. They are 6 months old and very healthy...
Hey! My name is Hannah, I've been raising chickens for a few years in Melbourne, Australia.
My favourite breed is not a breed at all, it is rescue ex-battery hens. Usually they are ISA browns. I have two ex-battery hens at the moment and 3 heritage chicks. Daryl the Hamburg, Sasha the...
For the past several months we’ve been battling an episode of feather-picking and, after MANY attempts to correct the problem, we’ve determined it's a result of overcrowding.
Consequently, we’ve reluctantly decided to rehome five of our poor, picked-on hens.
If anyone is interested in taking...
Anyone raise dorkings for meat? I currently have 11 red dorkings. I plan on keeping a flock and raising birds every year to eat. My 10 week old cockerel is just under 3lbs and I have 3 more cockerels that are about 8 weeks old. One is just over 2lbs and the other two are closer to 2.5lbs. I...
Hi all!
I have a batch of 25-or-so RIR/Rock/Sussex/Orp chicks that are about 2 months old now, and I'm wondering if there is anything I can feed them in addition to their usual feed that will make them even tastier than they already will be? They're currently getting Flock Raiser, plants from...
This winter was absolutely terrible I'm sure we can all agree on that! It was brutal for some breeds of chickens as well. The Dominique stood up to the weather!!
This is a fantastic cold hardy breed soft feathering, and auto sexing. Who wants a breed that can determine male & famale wile just a...
I had a beautiful pair of Narragansetts and was so excited to have her set this spring, but something happened to her over night and she is gone.
I would like to find a breeding hen or a few hens even, for our Tom ASAP, but all I can find are hatcheries selling day old chicks.
Does anyone...
Hello everyone. I also have black and blue copper marans eggs available. My eggs are between a 5-7 on the color scale with my black copper being the darkest eggs available. My hens are gorgeous! As with any eggs no guarantee on hatching rates but dry hatching has always worked in my favor.
I...
So the plan was to buy some Narragansetts (or something similar) this year and raise to sell for eating, and so I can collect the feathers. Then I found Porter's crossbreed turkeys and am in love with the pencilled palms and similar. I am wondering if anyone here has the pencilled or any other...
Hi, My aunt owns a ranch in Boulder Colorado. She specializes in grass-fed/finished pasture-raised Black Angus Beef. She wants to add additional meats to her butcher block shoppe. I have been doing research to help determine her options.
This is when I ran across the concept of the Heritage...

Hello,
It's been a long time since I've posted. I'm looking for some nice egg laying chickens (dual purpose okay) that have good bloodlines, along with some guinea fowl (any type). A small flock of ducks is likely in my future too.
The last time I got birds I got runty dual purpose chickens...
Originating in the U.S. during the colonial period was the Dominique, also known as Dominicker. This is literally America's oldest breed of chicken. Now you would think because of the long history we have with this breed that it would be more popular. You would think more folks would love This...
