Greenery Ridge is a small backyard hobby farm in southern Lancaster County PA. Owned by Bonnie Gruenberg and tolerated by her husband Alex, Greenery Ridge breeds rare chickens on a small scale. *Not open to the public to keep our flock safe from disease.* We breed miniature Serama chickens...
I started with 14 chicks this spring, so now they are young birds, all of whom are between 12 and 16 weeks of age. ( wound up with 12 pullets and two roosters.) However, in the last week, I have lost two pullets, both of them French Black Copper Marans. They Died a week apart. The other types...
I have this young cockerel BBS Maran. He is about 7 weeks old. At first I was pretty certain he was going to be black but as he grows he still has some grey feathering. Is this little guy blue or black? He hatched with both blue and splash marans from the same trio but I’m not sure what color...
I am new to this site and was not able to find a place to post breeder review, so I am posting this thread in forum.
I urge everyone who is thinking to buy or already bought chickens from Sunny Side Up Ranch in Norco CA to read their yelp reviews at...
(1) This is my first time owning and caring chickens myself but have often helped my sister with her flock. I got some chicks from a neighbor and few more from a feed store.
(2) I have three, 3 wk olds and three, 1 wk olds and am inheriting a full grown hen from my daughter's school in a...
This is Poppy. I thought she was a Black Australorp when we got her, but I have since gotten another Black Australorp and she looks nothing like Poppy. I’m hoping she is a Maran but there’s been some debate. She has always been almost entirely black except for her chin/chest, black feet and...
Hello BYC! I've lurked around here for a bit and finally decided to join the fun. I've recently started in on my first flock and would love some breed/gender guesses.
Long post, lots of chickens. I appreciate any help :)
When we got them, the lady quickly told us their breeds, but I've...
Willing to pay fair price, as I am only 15 and have to pay for this out of my pocket I can only afford so much. The reason I am in search of colorful layers, is to make more $ by selling them so I can buy a new incubator. I am looking for the following:
Araucana
Ameraucana
Easter Egger
Legbar...
So I purchased some chicks from TSC last season. Both are laying at the moment, however they appear to be different breeds. They were sold as "cuckoo Marans". Any thoughts on what they actually are? I was under the impression Maran's had dark wash on a pink or white foot rather then the yellow...
I would really appreciate help regarding a new chicken my partner bought me two days ago.
It was sold as a 17-19 week old copper black maran pullet. It looks cross bred to me, from the photos I have seen online... also the neck feathers are pretty pointy, but it doesn’t have obvious saddle...
I am thinking about starting to breed and sell French Black Copper Marans (and possibly one or two other breeds) in Maine. Does anyone have advice on getting started? I probably wouldn't start until next year at the earliest. Is there a market for these French Black Coppers? How would I do...
Anyone have a black copper marans pullet or hen in Utah?
I am hoping to find one preferably over 5 weeks old to add to my existing flock.
Thank you kindly.

I wanted to get a Rooster from my flock of Black Copper Marans, to get some different genetics and not have brothers breeding with sisters ect. Someone gave me this rooster when he was younger and he definitely had the colors, but now I am noticing he does not have the feathers on his legs...
She just started laying this week. Ive included a couple of pictures of her, and then one of her egg. Hers is the darker one, the two rounded ones are from my Barnevelder and the big oval shape from my Buff Orpington. This is her second egg, first was similar but slightly smaller.

Today I Review a business called Brinkhaven Acres.
I am greatly disappointed by my interactions with this business. In a recent order, I attempted to purchase 4 blue birchen marans - as advertised – on the website. This order was placed prior to a disclaimer of “chicks may be blue black or...
