    Chicks and water nipple question

How do you get chicks to use water nipples instead of the regular waterer where they can just dip their beak? Im struggling here. The same when I tried to convert my 18 week hens over. They seem clueless. I don't want them to thirst to death so I leave another water option out for them as well.

teaching them how to use new waterer

So I just moved my six 1/2 week old chicks into their coop which has one of those bucket waterers with the chicken nipples on it. They’re still getting used to the coop and they haven’t gone near their food or the water yet. It’s a new waterer for them. I tried poking the nipples to show them...

Wry neck and risk for drowning

My 2 week old Silkie chick has wry neck and I’ve separated her from the main brooder. I put in a water feeder along with her food, but her lack of balance due to wry neck has led her to fall into the water tray. She cant always get herself out so I decided the risk for drowning was too high...

What type of watering system should I go with?

Alrighty, so I'm brand new to this awesome chicken community, and I have my first chicks! They're getting to be around 7 weeks old now, and as much as I love their company, I need to get them out of my house (as I'm sure a lot of y'all understand haha). We are almost done building the coop+run...

    Water Line Questions

We're running a water line from the house to the duckhouse. It's around 160' and not a straight line. We're in Maine, where the water line must be at 4'. We plan to put 1" rigid foam over the water line to add protection. The plan is to feed two frost proof hydrants--one at a garden and one at...

    Oxine Question-Ducks

I have a question about the Oxine that I have. I know you can mix 1/8 tsp per gallon of water for them to drink. Does that get into their system and help them with diseases such as respiratory when they drink? And does it have to be activated or non activated when you put it in water for them to...

    Ducklings can't figure out drinker

Hi there, I made a waterer for my ducklings out of a gallon hawaiian punch jug. I cut a rectangle into it height ways and then turned it sideways and filled it halfway. The ducklings know there's water in there, and peck around it, but can't seem to quite figure it out. They have a pan for...

Is there such a thing as a reliable automatic watering device?

I have four hens. I've tried at least 3 different devices all of which attach to a garden hose and contain a float valve that's supposed to allow the container to fill the water container to a certain point and then shut off. All have worked for a few weeks and then for some reason the float...

    Switching watering system

Need advice. I have 4 chickens 15 weeks old, that have been using a gravity type small chick waterer since they were a day old. I have tried unsuccessfully to switch them to a cup waterer which got dirty and they never quite go the hang of. Now I’ve got a nipple waterer in the coop that the...

Out of town & worried about water

Hi everyone, I’m leaving to go out of town mid-day Friday and coming home Sunday afternoon. My mom is coming to check on my 7 chicks on Saturday. I have multiple small feeders and they’re going through about 1.5 of those per day, so I know I can leave enough food, and that even though they get...
