Wolfram threw the pieces of crystal on the ground, becoming more and more frightened. "Why aren't they working?! I thought you said they healed you before?!"River blinked rapidly, trying to keep her vision clear from the black spots that she knew would soon appear.
She flinched at the feeling of the stuff tumbling out onto her, but awaited the release from the jaws of pain with earnest.
But as the pain didn't dissipate, the muscles and organs didn't knit back together, she groaned. Nothing?
She muttered something incoherent, twisting her head to look at the wound, and winced from both pain and an odd disappointment as she did.
The crystal hadn't worked.
