«We Could Be Legends»

Brisa turned away from Wolfram and Misty at the sound of Toby’s car pulling up, her bright green eyes focusing on the confused expression on Peter’s face, her emotions mirroring his own. A wave of feeling swept over her, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to cry, or yell, or curl up into a little ball and give up. Not now! This is the worst time to be emotional! Exasperated and stressed out and anything but happy, she headed back over to the rock and sat down on it, returning her head to her hands to hide the annoying tears and coming to the realization that Connor still hadn’t arrived. With a good amount of effort she blinked the offending salty substance away and dragged herself to her feet, walking back over to the group. “Look, did any of you see Connor on your way here? He was following our car with Misty and River but he still hasn’t gotten here.” She explained to the three who had just showed up.

Jessi looked at Brisa, and shook her head. "No. We took a different way here than if we were coming from the bank." She said worriedly. She noticed the fear in the other girl's eyes. She wanted to say something to comfort her, but didn't want to say Connor was okay if he wasn't. "Hopefully he's just a little late. Let's give him a few more minutes. If he isn't back by then I'll go look for him." Jessi said.

Sherri blinked as she noticed how red Brisa's eyes were. She had been crying.
The contagious, stubborn tears formed in her own eyes, but she wasn't quite sure why.
It might have been the lack of food, or being in that Pure base, or watching her home fall apart.
In truth, Sherri had a lot to cry about. She only just realized now. And she felt alone among these strangers. And so she departed, putting herself away from the others. She didn't want them to see her cry. So she just looked at a tree, blinking at it.

Toby jumped out of the car. As he was grabbing his backpack, he noticed Sherri and Brisa's tear-filled eyes. Slowly, he climbed back into the car and quietly closed the door and locked it. He sank down into the seat, clutching his backpack tightly to his chest. Why are they crying? Did someone die? Maybe Mrs. Loson died. She was shot last time I saw her. No, she's up there with the others. Why are they crying? He sank lower into the seat until he wasn't visible to anyone looking over to the car. His foot tapped nervously on the floor, and he was shaking. Keep it together, keep it together. Alpha climbed on to Toby's lap, and with a yawn, he laid down, resting his head on Toby's hand. He stroked Alpha's head with his free hand. "You know, when dealing with such a crazy and annoying human such as myself, most people would've left long ago. That's why you're my favorite. No matter how much I lose it, you will always be here for me." Toby mumbled, and kissed him on the head. "Now should we go join the others?" He looked at Sherri's crying figure. "Nope, we'll stay here until someone makes us leave."

Brisa nodded anxiously, seeing Sherri begin tearing up out of the corner of her eye, as well as Toby slinking back into the car. Now I made them feel bad. Stupid, stupid, stupid! She scolded herself, counting everyone’s heads before returning, frustrated, to her rock, wrapping her arms around her knees and burying her face in her skirt. She knew she wasn’t being helpful but at that point she didn’t care.

Jessi walked over to Brisa and sat down next to her. She gently wrapped her wing around Brisa's shoulders. She didn't speak, but if Brisa wanted to talk, she would listen.

Brisa lifted her head, giving the wyvern a grateful smile. “Thanks.” She whispered, sighing. “I’m just... stressed, and paranoid, and worried about everyone and everything.” She gulped in a breath of air and dropped her head back down, leaning against Jessi.

Jessi hugged her tightly. "Everything will turn out okay. We have some of the most powerful inhumans on our side. We've stopped them before, we can do it again." She said, her voice sounding determined that it was true. She was reminded of everyone's injuries and all the death, but didn't let Brisa know she was thinking that.

“I hope it’ll all turn out okay. I just- there’s so much against us. So many people are dying and there’s not much we can do.” She replied, staring at her scuffed tennis shoes.

"I know. But even though it hard, we have to be strong, ok? C'mon, I think my brother has tissues." Jessi said, standing up. She gently took Brisa's hand and lead her over to the car.

(Wat rain?)
