«We Could Be Legends»

Bleddyn turned around to see who the newcomer was and nearly jumped a yard backward. After having recovered from the initial shock of seeing Toby in his darkened state, she motioned toward her mother and the fixated wolf she followed. "River's looking--or, erm, scenting."
She took a few longer strides forward, halfheartedly beckoning for Toby to follow her instead of joining the two women. Although she greatly doubted the probability of herself locating her father rather than her skilled mother and aunt, her initiative actually turned fruitful when she raced around a corner to find a certain beacon of success.
"Oh, Wolfram..." She trailed off and hurried forward through the rubble, her hand coming up to her mouth to suppress whatever sound of shock would inevitably come as soon as she saw what had the older boy visibly panicked.

"I won't hurt you," Toby said, his voice eerily calm. He followed Bleddyn, coming to a stop behind her. "Did you f..." His voice trailed off as he stared at the wolf caught underneath the rubble. "We need to find a way to get him out." He said, looking for some kind of sturdy pole.

Wolfram froze, his sensitive hearing picking up approaching footsteps. Mapleshade? Oh please don't let it be...
He shot to his feet, spinning around. "Bleddyn," he said breathlessly, sounding both relieved, surprised and panicked. He glanced at Connor, then back at Bleddyn. "Ash and River are with you guys...right?" He murmured, "we can't get him out ourselves." I don't even know if we can get him out.

"Erm... ish. They're still a little ways away." Toby replied. He found a large metal pole, and grabbed a rock. Flattening half of the pole with the rock, he held it up. "We can use this as a lever. Help me, will you?" He asked Wolfram, and then turned to Connor. "Connor, when we lift this up you need to move out of the way quickly, okay? And Bled, you need to help get your dad out." He pushed the flat side of the pole under the chunk of concrete. "3, 2, 1, now." He tried to lift the concrete, barely getting it to move, but not enough for Connor to escape.

"We need to wait!" Wolfram hissed, eyes darting frantically from Connor to Toby. "Don't! Do not move it anymore, Toby! If it falls, it could kill him. We need to wait for Ash and River, they'll know the safest way to get him out."

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry." Toby said, slowly backing away from Connor and Wolfram, his hands slightly raised to show he wasn't trying to lift it anymore. Everything I do has to be bad, doesn't it? For once let me do something useful. He stared off in the direction of River and Ash, avoiding looking at Wolfram. "I can go get the Mrs. Loson and Asfaw if you think that would be more useful than waiting for them to come to us." He offered quietly.

"It's okay, it's fine, it's not your fault. You didn't know." Wolfram drew in a sharp breath, and glanced at Connor. "Do you have a weapon on you? Anything that you can use to defend yourself in case Maple or her men come after you?"

Toby glanced at Wolfram. He wasn't sure who he was talking to, so instead of making a fool of himself if Wolfram was talking to Connor or Bleddyn, he stayed quiet, poking at the ground with his shoe.

"Toby. If you have a weapon to defend yourself, go look for River and Ash. But if you don't...stay with us. I don't want anyone else getting hurt." Wolfram murmured.

"Oh, you were talking to me?" His head snapped up to stare at Wolfram. "Yeah I have a weapon. I'll go get them." He turned and jogged towards River and Ash. He followed the same strange voices until he reached them. His eyes had just been turning back to purple, but by the time he arrived they were black again. "Mrs. Asfaw, Mrs. Loson? We found him." He said. "Follow me." He lead them back to Connor.
As Toby’s colorful shape began to fade, Brisa turned away from the others and chased after it, following both his and Bleddyn’s forms back to Connor. She approached the group cautiously to avoid startling them, blinking away her heat vision and tucking her weapon almost out of sight into her right pocket. She let out a small gasp when she saw Connor. “Is there anything I can do?” She asked, worry filling her voice.

"Brisa!" Wolfram yelped, glancing wildly around before his gaze finally set on her. "You should not be out here! Neither of you!" He snarled, before suddenly taking a apologetic step back. "Look, I'm not trying to scare you, but this place...it's swarming with the Pure." He sighed, shaking his head. "No, Brisa. You can't do anything. We're just waiting for Toby to come back with Mrs. Asfaw and River."

"Wait, where are you-" Jessi called out, and sighed as Brisa was already out of sight. She ran a hand over Alpha's soft fur. She worried about Toby being away from Alpha, but there wasn't anything she could do about it. She also worried about Brisa running to find the others, where she could get lost. She walked back towards the pile of weapons and switched out her flamethrower to a small black pistol. She shoved it into the belt of her shorts, and watched the clearing for any sign of Mapleshade or the Pure members.

“Well, it’s to late, I’m already here and I’m not leaving.” She responded stubbornly, her eyes flickering to black as she switched to heat vision. “I can see the Pure coming before you guys can anyway.” She examined Connor’s situation for a second, furrowing her brow, then spoke. “Should I try to lift it off? I’ll maybe be able to do it more smoothly so it won’t hurt as much.” She asked, lifting her head distractedly at the sound of footsteps and looking back at Wolfram when she identified Jessi’s red shape. “It’s just Jessi.” She said, switching to X-ray vision and studying Connor’s problem more closely.

Brisa listened to their exchange with a smile, quietly grabbing a handgun. She had very good aim and could often shoot things the others couldn’t even see thanks to her special vision. Flicking on her heat vision, she began to follow Toby’s reddish-orange shape, glancing back at the others.

Sherri decided to pocket a knife, which would drop should she have to shift, but at least it wouldn't go off, should she drop it, and she didn't want to seem like a threat.
Sherri swiftly appeared at Brisa's side. "Maybe we could make this a joint effort. You make it lighter while we lift? Or does telekinesis not work that way?"

Just Jessi, just Sherri... Wolfram assured himself, but it did nothing to calm his racing heart. "Guys..." He groaned, "don't touch anything. We can move the top stuff if we wanted to, but the stuff that's actually on top of him is heavy. Trust me. If we tried to move that, and failed, it could fall and kill him." He pleaded for his heart to slow, his body involuntarily jumping slightly at every single crack or breeze. "We have to wait for Ash and River. They will know what to do..."

“I can lift pretty heavy things...” she trailed off and became silent. Maybe it was better to not know than to know but not be able to help.

"I don't doubt that." Wolfram had a sinking feeling someone was watching them, that something was going horribly wrong. He glanced around wildly, expecting Mapleshade to leap from behind a pile of plaster and wood at any moment. "But...we can't...risk it."

Bleddyn increased the painful pressure that she bit down on her trembling lip with. "I don't think Mom or River can do much more than any of us," she ventured solemnly, sliding to her knees into the shattered mess of building material that smothered her father. Almost immediately, her legs began to surrender blood to the vicious metal and glass scraps that penetrated her jeans. Connor's drooping eyelids lifted for a moment to let vibrant blue irises greet his daughter, then slipped closed completely. Bleddyn slid her hand beneath his muzzle, but there was no more response. Her heart seemed to anxiously flip to the rhythm of his erratic pulse that vibrated from his grimy fur to her palm. "Dad."

Ash finally appeared then and just stood there. After letting her husband's dire state register and combine with the innumerable threats pressing down on them all, simple fear had her begin to jerkily run her hands through her hair. "Alright, we've got to just get him and go."

Wolfram briefly wondered, after Ash had arrived, if his heart was going to burst. He wished he had the calm composure of Bleddyn's mother, but his cat-like instincts caused his level of fear to spike to the highest level possible.
He nodded stiffly at Ash's words, pleading the crack he had heard was nothing. "I...we have to hurry." He croaked, "I think...I think she's watching us...someone is, I can feel it."
He suddenly heard scrambling behind him, and he turned, ever so slowly. Nothing was there though. Nothing but piles of fallen buildings. "Let's just hurry."
