Ash noticed that he'd been successfully placated, but after loosely following the erratic path of his gaze, she wasn't so sure if that was a good thing. Finding Wolfram's subtle anxiety contagious, she made sure to keep her pace quick and safely progressive toward the rendezvous point where their vehicles waited.
Wolfram flinched suddenly, gaze snapping around, only to find what he thought was a looming shadow was merely a oddly shaped tree that had escaped the damage of the fallen buildings. Pull it together.
The cars came into sight, and a crashing wave of relief passed over him, not sure how much longer he could support Connor. But it faded quickly, as he was positive he heard twigs snap and leaves crunch. He glanced into the dark woods, but saw nothing. "Ash," he growled, his voice low. There was no need to startle the rest of the group if it were nothing. "Did you hear that?"

Sherri raised her head, ears twisting. Footsteps. "Yeah. I heard that. I don't think they're friendly either..."
As her feline instincts sent a chill down her spine, Sherri turned her huge, fluffy ears back. Danged. It was eminent.

Wolfram's gaze snapped to the woods, searching frantically for the source of the noise. But then it stopped, and he saw nothing. "It-it's nothing. Nothing. Just...just...a...squirrel or...something."

(I apologize for quoting so many posts :D)
"True- I mean, the world that raised us is legit crumbling around us." Bleddyn skipped forward, then paused mid-bounce when her brain decided to realize that her thigh still hurt. She then continued for the front of the ragtag parade with a renewed frown and a jerky limp. "Besides being a serious existential crisis inducer, that's pretty much the old tomato of depression."

Wolfram narrowly avoided tripping over a large rock, casting a wary glance over his shoulder to look at the rest of the group, before looking back to the road ahead. He tightened his grip on the wolf, fearing that one wrong move would mean that Connor would fall from his grasp.
"Ash," he growled, gaze flickering towards the woods, and he swore he saw a shadow flicker by. "It is my fault. If I had been a little quicker she would never have gotten the key, and everyone would have been safe." Tayn, Thomas and Silver weren't. We still got kidnapped. People got shot, stabbed, darted. "This? This is because I wasn't quick enough. People are dying, Connor could— and Connor's seriously hurt. Can't you see that?"

Toby jogged back to the cars. His face lit up when he saw Alpha. "Hi buddy!" He said, kneeling down. Alpha raced towards him, tackling Toby to the ground. "I missed you! Aww, you're such a good boi." He said, kissing Alpha. Jessi watched them hug for a moment, and then helped Toby up. "How's Connor?" She asked.
"Well, he's not dead, if that's what you're asking." Toby replied. He pulled out a ring of keys and looked at Indigo. "Ind heart, catch!" He tossed the keys to her, smiling at her annoying nickname.

Sherri tried raising an eyebrow, but it mostly looked like an angry constipated face. "You sound like my science teacher."

Indigo caught the keys with a rather cringe-worthy stance that probably would cause the referee to make up a new penalty for football. She smiled a goofy smile. "What do I do with these?" she shouted, jangling the keys in front of her.

"Oh, I don't know, use them to eat dinner. Stab some people with them. You shouldn't use them in a car, like a normal person." Toby replied sarcastically, rolling his eyes and trying not to laugh. "They're your keys, what do you normally use them for?"

All because of the word science, Bleddyn's face paled as efficiently if someone had doused her expression with spit milk; reborn panic shoved all of her decently prepared responses to some inexistent oblivion. She whirled around and, in a fashion that had become common over the past 48 hours, her hands flew forward to latch onto Sherri's shirt neckline with frantic desperation. "I had a biology test."
Sweat beaded at her hairline and began to roll down her face. But when the first droplet invaded her eye, the disturbing panicked look left and her grasp let up. Shrugging the last peculiar twenty seconds off, she spun away and scaled a local pile of bricks. When she pivoted back, she came pretty close to faceplanting straight back down. "Also, I think I meant ultimatum. If that even works in that sentence. Honestly, though, I liked old tomato better."

"Yeah," Sherri said. "And why do you even care about your education right now? The school was probably reduced to a smoldering pile or rubble." She bit her lip, wondering if everyone was okay.

"Wolfram." Ash's left hand snaked up Connor's fluffy underside so she could find his throat's pulse and just relish in the blessing of being able to hold her palm to it. "I'm going to say it again. If you hadn't happened into our lives or if you had...if you gave up a while ago, every single one of us would be dead right now." She glanced away from the road to exchange a second's glance with him. And although it was gone in a fleeting moment, it had to be one of the most meaningful looks she'd ever given anyone. "Understand that, okay? We've lost what we've lost. And maybe...maybe we're going to lose more. But, right now, we're here, we're okay, and, because of you, we all have potential futures."

Bleddyn had to come to a complete halt then. "That's just it." She plopped her hands onto her hips, looking the part of a shabby overlord of the trash. "I shouldn't care about school at all, but I do, and it's...morally unsettling. If I'm slowly becoming a teacher's pet or some other domesticated junk, who am I really?"

(Oops looks like I didn't reply)
"Ohh right. These aren't my keys." She peered at the keys for the Multitude van and clicked a button. The van doors unlocked. She paused to think of a good joke, but her brain was empty.

Wolfram, for once in his life, couldn't quite find the right words to respond to her. He swore she had glanced at him, something glittering in her eyes, meaningful, but it was gone so quickly, it had to have just been his mind playing tricks. Right?
"Maybe you're right." He managed after several moments of utter silence. "Maybe you're wrong. But I did nothing, Ash." He was to tired to fight anymore, to sore and to tired to keep fighting with her. "But I guess I have to take your word for it."

"But.. I took them from you. They're your keys." Toby said, looking confused. "I didn't... I didn't hallucinate that, right?" He asked.

"A very smart person?" Sherri guessed, kicking a rock. She had become the domesticated junk that Bleddyn was describing to her, but it didn't bother her one bit. But maybe that was because she still had a wilder side, the part of her that could stalk mice and talk to cats if she wished. Did that just make Bleddyn- Bleddyn? But she had to be the purest essence of Bleddyn there was, and maybe Bleddyn had just as much as she did. "I think you are the purest character out of all of us," Sherri said, surprising herself. She was a bit vain, and would have much rather taken the title. She chuckled a little bit. "I guess that really doesn't make sense," she said, staring at her dust-coated sneaker absently digging in the dirt.

"Haha, my keys work for these as well," Indigo said, patting the van's clean white side. "I guess I didn't look very closely." She lifted the keys to the light, blushing when she saw the keys glinting in the light, keys that obviously belonged to her car.

Immediately cracking up, Bleddyn let herself crumple to her knees and bumpily slide back down to the ground. "No, dude, it didn't- at all. But I think I needed that." When she made her way back to her feet, she gave Sherri her first wholly intentional smile of the entire weekend and offered her chafed fist for an amicable bump. "So thanks."

"So.. they are your keys. Okay. You had me pretty confused. I'm glad I'm not crazy. Yet." Toby said, laughing nervously.

Sherri bumped fists and smiled widely, revealing a surprisingly jagged row of teeth. "I'm glad I could help," she said. Because she had been awfully useless lately.

Brisa quietly followed the group with Lily, the floating girl slowly sinking closer to the ground as time went on. Her strength was waning as her anger faded, and her eyes had progressively gotten darker throughout the trip. Just a little farther! She thought, urging herself onward. We’re almost there! She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn’t notice the commotion at the front of the group until she almost ran into Sherri. “What’s happening?” She asked worriedly, adrenaline starting to seep into her worn out body.

Toby's eyes widened slightly. He didn't hear anything, but he also didn't have super hearing like some of the others. "If you hear something, you need to tell us." He said, trying to hide his shaking voice.
Maybe it's just one of us. Nah, be real dude, It's the Pure and we're all going to die painful, bloody, deaths. Oh hey, Lily's here! Just what we need!
He gripped tightly on to Alpha's leash and took a few steps closer to Jessi.

“Okay.” She replied curtly in response to his harsh tone, meeting his worried eyes with her own weary gaze. Too tired to argue, she set Lily down a little less gently than she probably could have and straightened as if a load had been lifted, shaking out her arms and hands to relieve some of the numbness that often accompanied her telekinesis.

Wolfram didn't realize how close they where to the cars until he heard Toby's voice, and stopped in his tracks when River did. "It's nothing, I'm sure it's nothing."

Lily yelped sharply as she was promptly dropped from the air, and she glared at Brisa. "Thanks a lot."

"Then-then why are you acting more freaked out than normal?" Toby asked nervously.
