River stared into Ash's enraged eyes, her own eyes dull and seemingly staring into space. "I never said Bleddyn was okay, I said 'I don't know where she is' which at the time, was true. I knew she was taken, yes, but where, I only found that out later. I couldn't tell you, you'd insist we wait for you to come, I couldn't wait, or I'm almost positive I would be down a son and you a daughter. You would have simply been in the way. Like you are now. Why couldn't you have stayed home with Bleddyn?" She muttered harshly, but her heart obviously wasn't in it.

As someone's hand rapped against the door, she had to swallow a whimper of distress. She suddenly shot forward, brushing past Ash's shoulder and was standing at the door in mere seconds, her hand hovering over the handle.

I'm so, so sorry, Ash.

She jerked the door open, a look of utter blankness on her face. "Officer?"
"Hi, you we're expecting me, I guess that means you're River? My name is..."

"Freddie....? I mean, I'm Deputy Frederick Chapman we spoke on the phone."
Freddie cleared his throat, searching for the right words to say. Were there even right words for this kind of thing. He wanted to be sure that this was actually River before he said anything though.
River nodded, offering her hand to a hand shake for formal greeting, however she could not pull a smile to go along with it. "Correct, I'm River Katrina Loson."
Alice stepped into the room, at the same time as River opened the door. Police? Why would the police be at Jessi's house? She noticed Fritz chatting with Toby and Jessi, when had he gotten here? Alice wandered into the kitchen trying to draw as little attention to herself as possible.
Freddie nodded, taking her hand he shook it once firmly but quickly. His lips pursed together and he braced for what he had to tell her. "May I come in? I need to talk to you, and your nieces."
Frankie scanned the faces of all of the people in the room a lot of the kids looked pretty beat up. He recognized a few faces he had seen at the park, but hadn't spoken to before they disappeared. He wanted to ask about it, but he had something more important he had to deal with first.

"Alice? Camilla?" He called their names as gently as he could. "I need to talk to you."
River stepped aside, motioning for him to come in. "Alice, Camil--"

"What?" Camilla's voice greeted her right as the teenager's name started to escape her lips. Camilla sounded mellow and put down, quiet. An odd thing for the boastful and silly girl.

River glanced over her niece, her tears had been dried, and she had undoubtedly been coaxed into a fragile calm by Lachlan and Finlay.
Freddie ignored the rest of the commotion, with River, Alice, and Camilla there it was time to tell them. He took a breath, and slowly and clearly told them. "Earlier today someone broke into your house." He paused to swallow. "Both your mother and father were killed." He was silent letting what he said sink in.
"Our," Alice glanced over at Camilla, "mom. I know." She whispered.
Ash had followed the little group, having been unable to respond to River before the officer had interrupted with his presence. She was wholly alarmed now.
The flagitious pieces to her worst nightmare were falling into place with every new aspect of this whole situation.
Bleddyn's distress, River's grief, the whole atmosphere of sorrow, the law being involved- no matter how much she wanted to deny it, it all added up to something much more grave than what she'd been enlightened of so far.

At the policeman's latest words, her facial features fell.
First it was her mouth, which crumpled into a disbelieving little frown.
Then the constant sparkle in her eyes died.
And her face just collapsed.

“You’re…you’re saying…Thomas….and Tayn…they’re…they’re…both...gone.”

It was as if she was hearing her own voice from many miles away.

Alice looked over at Ash, "No, it's just mom. Isn't it?" She looked back to the police officer. Surely it was just her mom, their dad was away at work. It couldn't be him. Maybe one of those guys had been killed. "It can't be dad too."

"Your mother's gone?" Ash echoed faintly, the words leaving horrible acrid tastes in her mouth. Her arms dropped limply and she stumbled back a few steps until she was supported by a couch. "Tayn's gone?"

Frankie gently put his hand on Alice's elbow, "No, it's both of them. I'm sure. It is both. I'm sorry."

Jenna stared in horror and shock. "I-I am so sorry." She said, looking around the room. "How- how did they die?"

He planted his hands on either side of the sink, the water still running. He stared at the pale, bleeding, broken, bruised, terrified, weak, pathetic, cowardly figure in the mirror. His bony shoulders shuddered as he forced a sob down, eyes glassy and dark. Why did she even want to be my friend? Look at me. I'm a monster.
He let out a snarl, gripping the edges of the counter. Bleddyn's aunt died, and she was Camilla and Alice's mom to...No one deserves this! No one! No one should have to go though such emotional scarring. Exept for me....I deserve everything I get. Why do I even exist anymore? What's the reasoning for my life? Everyone would be happier if I just...died, no? Then I wouldn't have to stay on this cruel, dark, cold world. It's so dark....so hateful...so violent....but maybe....if I could change it? No...that's stupid thinking... He looked back into the mirror, the running water drowning out all thoughts but one. I just want to leave this violent and dark world.
