«We Could Be Legends»

"If you keep talking, kiddo, I'm gonna shove you out of this car all the while we are moving, and laugh when I hear you get crushed under the wheels." River snarled manically, turning away from Taylor.

"Yeah, what Alice said."

"Kiddo, shut up and let him drive."
Taylor squeaked, finally shutting up.

"I honestly can't believe we let her come along." Wolfram hissed. "She's been like this ever since I met her. Annoying, snobby, thinks she superior and greater then everyone else." His face was utterly emotionless, in fact to emotionless to be real almost.

River nodded, a grimace sliding over her face. She leaned in close to Wolfram so that none of the other occupants of the car could hear her next words. "Does she have family?" She asked in a mere whisper, her voice taut.

Wolfram shrugged, glancing at River. "I don't know. I've heard rumors about Lily being her sister, but I don't think it's true. I've never met her mother or father, and she has never mentioned them. She lives on her own, from what I know." He replied quietly, glancing at Taylor in the mirror. "She seems happy enough, never really seen her in a dull moment. But she's never mentioned family."

River gave a slight nod. "Mapleshade wanted her to get the key for her, that's what she said, correct? If she doesn't, Mapleshade is probably either going to try to go after Taylor's family-- If she's got one, or Lily." She paused, before going on. "I don't trust her, nor do I respect her. I'm not saying she's all bad, but there's a high chance that, well, just don't let her get near the key, I'm all too aware of what people can do to protect their loved ones."

Wolfram nodded slowly, but tensed when his ex-girlfriend's name was mentioned. He clenched he jaw, sighing heavily. "I won't let her anywhere near the key. But if Mapleshade even lays a finger on Lily I'm going to-" He broke off, gripping the steering wheel even tighter. I'm going to what? Loose it? How much do I still care about Lily?
To much.

Wolfram growled softly, a jolt of unexpected pain running up his injured arm. "What I meant to say is, I won't let her know anything about the key." He finished rather dully .

Wolfram kept his eyes locked on the road, unable to even cast a glance at anyone else. He felt like he was drowning in his thoughts, yet was completely aware of his surroundings. Taylor had headphones in, singing softly along to the music, Toby, Alice and River all silently staring put there windows. Suddenly the aching silence was to much to bare. He turned the radio on, with more force then really need, blue eyes shooting a deadly glare in the mirror at Taylor, before locking them back on the road.
He phone vibrated in his sweatshirt pocket. Lily...
Normally he would have instantly picked up the phone.
Normally he would have longed to hear her voice.
Her laugh.
Normally he would have done anything to see her. Just to be around her, to talk to her, to simply just feel her presence.
But now, at that moment he felt nothing but betrayed. Hurt. Lost. Broken.
He had confided in her so many times. He trusted her with his life. She knew secrets even his mother didn't. She had seen him at his worst, and he best. His bad and good. She had seen every side of him.
He trusted her.
But she betrayed him. Left him for some low-life. Because I'm not good enough.
I'm not worthy.
I didn't love her enough.

He dug his teeth into his bottom lip until it started bleeding, holding back sobs, trying to let the music drown out his thoughts.
I loved her! I still love her! But I can't trust her...
She hates me.

A growl escaped him against his will, but over the music no one in the back seat heard him.
I'm sorry God, whoever and wherever you may be.
What did I do to deserve this?
This pain?
This betrayl?
My dad, Mapleshade, Lily. I though I could trust them.
WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!
Forgive me, please I'm begging you.
Just make all the pain stop. Please let me wake up. Just let it be a bad, long, nightmare. Let me wake up with Lily next to me, my mom and Mapleshade in the kitchen chattering about nonsense. Let me wake up with Sage still here, doing whatever Sage does. Let me wake up with out these scars on my arms, let me wake up not feeling like dying every second of the day. Let my dad never have hated me. Please.
But then you would have never met Lachlan or River, Brisa or Alice. Or Bleddyn. Would you really want that?

That was a question he couldn't answer. He blinked rapidly, trying to rid of emotion that welled in his throat.
"Am I going the right way, Alice?" His voice cracked, and came out much more emotional then he wanted.

Toby stared out the window, reading the license plates of cars that drove by. He found car rides to be extremely boring unless he was driving, so this was often something he would do. He would try to memorize the plates, and later he would see if he remembered them correctly. He was lost in thought, thinking about what would happen if the Pure succeeded to release the poison, when the radio turned on. Toby jumped & cursed under his breath, startled by the sudden noise. He glanced around at everyone in the car, breathing quickly. It didn't look like anyone had noticed him, much to his relief. He slumped back in his seat, petting Alpha's head gently. He leaned against the window. The song currently playing wasn't familiar to him, and he counted the beats of the drums, trying to find a pattern.

Alice had been completely off in her own world staring out the window watching the gravel on the side of the road blur together. She looked up at Wolfram trying to figure out what he had asked her. She loosened her seat belt and leaned forward to the gap between the headrests to look out the windshield. They were a lot closer than she thought they would be. Alice put a hand on Wolframs shoulder. "You're gonna have to slow down. There's an overgrown path off to the right somewhere around here. It doesn't go all the way in, but that's the only way I know."

Wolfram flinched at the sudden touch, glancing at her for half a heartbeat. Nodding, he looked back to the road, the car increasingly slowly. Searching the right side of the road, he found the road quicker then he they would. Swinging the car into the road, he stopped the car, the grass much to thick and to many fallen branches to continue. "This is the right place, right Alice?" He asked, glancing back at her wearily.

"Yeah." She said squinting at their surroundings. "Yeah I think it is." Alice hopped out of the car. The path ahead was over grown with grass and other weeds, old tire tracks on either side were sunken down and filled with water from the previous days rain. She didn't wait for anyone else to get out of the car before taking off up the path, pushing through hanging branches as she skirted the path avoiding the pools of water. Thorns grabbed at her leggings, ripping a decent sized hole as she pulled away. She wasn't really dressed for this, still wearing the denim dress from yesterday. Alice sighed, at least her dress was denim, and would keep the thorns off of her for the most part.
