«We Could Be Legends»

“Thanks, you’re probably right,” Brisa responded, leaning against Jessi. “I’m fine if the police don’t come, it’s just that there are just so many injured people that need help and not that many healers.”

“Sadly, the only person I know with medical knowledge is sleeping...” Jessi trailed off, looking at the van. She turned her attention back to Brisa. “You’re right, there’s not a lot of healers here. But at the rate they’re working, everyone should be better in no-time.” Jessi kept the uncertainty out of her voice. She wasn’t sure if what she was saying was true, but so far it looked like it was. No one had died because of their injuries yet, and she didn’t count Connor, Sherri, or Jenna.
She gave Brisa another small squeeze with her wing, hoping Brisa would be comforted by her words.

“I guess. I just wish I could do more.” She lifted her hands, watching them. They trembled slightly. “I’m worried that I’ll pass out again if I exert myself.”

“I do too,” Jessi replied softly to her first statement. She looked at Brisa’s shaking hands. “Are you cold? We can go into one of the cars. It would be warmer, and safer.” Jessi offered.

With each stride the fur on his paws became stickier and stickier, red liquid that held a heavy stench of sweet metallic, iron-like, of the fallen matting the fur on his paws and legs.
Wolfram finally slowed to a walk, his dark pelt unseen in the darkness of the shadows. His ears flattened to his skull as a horrified scream split the air, floating over the sounds of frantic yelling and even gunshots for a brief moment. He let his gaze drift over the infinite battle-field, his heart sinking at the sight.
Pure and Inhuman bodies lay scattered everywhere he looked, some completely undeniable and other shockingly familiar, even if it was just someone that he knew from passing-by. He felt cold, the fur on his spine rising as a shiver passed through him, and he continued on his search silently.
After many minutes of searching, he found whom he was looking for, standing amidst the smoke and battle. He paused, watching, bemused, as she drew back her arm and launched her gun as far as the could, most likely leaving it to clatter to the ground, or hopefully hit some unfortunate Pure member in the head.
He drew in a sharp breath, that was mainly smoke and little air, his shock cut off momentarily as coughs racked his body. When he recovered, he padded up to her, hissing and snarling defiantly at her actions, until he was aware that she could not understand anything that he was saying. He quickly shifted back into his human form, pulling himself to his feet. "What are you doing, Bleddyn?!"
Bleddyn was startled by Wolfram's sudden appearance and stumbled a few steps backward. She stared up at him for a long moment, steadying her breathing after letting it go wild with helpless despair. And as their silence stretched on, she came to realize that the scattered Pure she'd heard nearby seemed to be retreating into the woods rather than approaching with animosity.
Finally, she spoke. "It's going to be hard, you know?" She went to stuff her hands into her pockets, but ended up ripping two more holes in her battered jeans. "What am I saying? Of course you know."

“It’s a little chilly, but I’m fine. It’s better to be out here where I can see everyone and everything that’s happening,” She replied, lowering her hands. “Thank you, though.”

Jessi gave her an understanding smile. “I’ll go get you a sweater,” she said, standing up. She opened the van door, carefully grabbing Toby’s backpack. Alpha raised his head, looking at her with wide brown eyes. Jessi smiled at the dog, but was quickly distracted. Where Alpha’s head once covered, she could see Toby’s sleeve was soaked in fresh blood.
She sucked in a breath. He’s hurt somehow, Jessi noted. She bit her lip and looked around at everyone close to her, and then down at the backpack. I’ll just... I’ll just give Brisa the sweater, and then I’ll check him over. Maybe I can have someone help me. She backed away from the van, leaving the door open.
Jessi knelt down by Brisa, digging through the backpack until she found what she was looking for. She pulled out a small, navy blue zip-up hoodie with the name of a local pizza and bar on the back. “Here. It might be a little tight, but it’s one of his baggier jackets so it should fit,” Jessi said distractedly, draping the shirt over Brisa’s shoulders.

Does Toby wear youth sizes? Indigo wondered. Probably not, it has the name of a bar on the back. Maybe he gets people’s shrunken shirts at Goodwill.

Jessi noticed Indigo looking at the shirt, seemingly lost in thought. Is she trying to read what it says? She wondered, frowning at Indigo. Most people didn’t look that interested in someone else’s shirt, and her overprotective mom instincts kicked in. She better not turn into a creep. If she is, hopefully no one will notice she’s missing. “Indigo? You okay?” Jessi asked. For all she knew, it was just a coincidence Indigo was looking at Toby’s shirt.

“Yes? Yes!” Indigo blinked and looked up. “What?”
