«We Could Be Legends»

Bleddyn was startled by Wolfram's sudden appearance and stumbled a few steps backward. She stared up at him for a long moment, steadying her breathing after letting it go wild with helpless despair. And as their silence stretched on, she came to realize that the scattered Pure she'd heard nearby seemed to be retreating into the woods rather than approaching with animosity.
Finally, she spoke. "It's going to be hard, you know?" She went to stuff her hands into her pockets, but ended up ripping two more holes in her battered jeans. "What am I saying? Of course you know."
Wolfram was caught entirely off-guard by her words, distracted by the Pure retreating while he waited for her answer in the agonizing quiet. His head turned, gaze downcast to reach hers as he kept the same silence she had when he first spoke. No, he didn't know. He hadn't stopped long enough to think about; her words were like an alarm clock going off as he realized: It's going to be so hard...
"No, actually," he murmured. "I mean... I didn't know, until now. I guess I didn't think about it. Or I didn't want to think about it. But you're right. It is gonna be hard. But..."
He drew off, unsure of what he was even saying. His shoulders heaved a shrug, eyes falling away from hers and to the ground as silence filled the void of words. "I don't even know what I'm saying. What ever comes after this... We'll make it through." His gaze flickered back up to hers. "We've got to."

Jessi gave her an understanding smile. “I’ll go get you a sweater,” she said, standing up. She opened the van door, carefully grabbing Toby’s backpack. Alpha raised his head, looking at her with wide brown eyes. Jessi smiled at the dog, but was quickly distracted. Where Alpha’s head once covered, she could see Toby’s sleeve was soaked in fresh blood.
She sucked in a breath. He’s hurt somehow, Jessi noted. She bit her lip and looked around at everyone close to her, and then down at the backpack. I’ll just... I’ll just give Brisa the sweater, and then I’ll check him over. Maybe I can have someone help me. She backed away from the van, leaving the door open.
Jessi knelt down by Brisa, digging through the backpack until she found what she was looking for. She pulled out a small, navy blue zip-up hoodie with the name of a local pizza and bar on the back. “Here. It might be a little tight, but it’s one of his baggier jackets so it should fit,” Jessi said distractedly, draping the shirt over Brisa’s shoulders.

Brisa thanked her, pulling the jacket on. She’d been colder than she realized.

(My brain is dead)

Bleddyn had so much more to say, but Wolfram's response took it all away for some reason. "Yeah," she agreed concisely, suddenly looking at anything but him. "Yeah."
It was then she finally came to terms with something:
This was her world now.
And she could either exist in it or not.
But, when it came down to it, it wasn't really her choice to make.
It was theirs. Her friends and her family. Everyone who loved her.
She'd seen how people broke when someone couldn't stay.
She knew she couldn't do that to anyone.
So she'd be sticking around for awhile. And sticking around meant warring against the opponent of all opponents- guilt.
She knew it'd be an interminable battle. She'd come to renege on her resolve. But she would win.
Starting here, she'd make that effort.
Bleddyn looked him in the eyes and smiled with the utmost sincerity. Her detested dimples broke into her freckled cheeks, but, for once, her face didn't shut down to hide them. "Thanks."

Jessi gave her a small smile and moved towards the van to check on Toby.
(Same. XD )

Alice watched Jessi as she walked toward them. Her eyes flicking over to Brisa and Camilla before coming back to Jessi. No one seemed surprised that she could heal people. Everything was happening so slowly for a dream. She'd seen Jessi walk all the way over to the van, dig though and find the sweater, then walk all the way back. And now she was walking back. Dreams usually jumped around unless something important was happening. Alice looked down at the cold mud that was seeping through her leggings. The gentle weight of her hands resting on her thighs, and an almost unnoticed chill from her damp bloody sticky fingers. Could this be real? She looked over at the group of people some injured, some just sitting staring vacantly into the distance. She couldn't see any in the limited light, but she could hear children crying. Some begging for their mommy or daddy.

"Jessi?" She said quietly as she walked by.

Jessi’s eyes were glued to the van. Her only thought was to get to Toby, so when someone called her name, she was taken off guard.
She looked around, spotting Alice watching her expectantly.
She stopped, kneeling down next to Alice. Jessi did a once-over of her, unable to find any injuries.
“Alice, are you okay? what’s wrong?” Jessi asked, her face full of concern. She knew it was a terrible question to ask. No one was okay and everything was wrong, but it slipped out of her mouth before she could stop it.
She took a deep breath, closing her eyes. “Let me rephrase that... are you hurt?” Jessi asked, opening her eyes and looking at Alice.

Alice shook her head gently a small frown of confusion pulling her eyebrows together.
"Is this real?" She asked, her bright blue eyes studied the other girls face. She didn't want it to be, but dreams weren't like this. Not even vivid nightmares were like this.

Jessi tilted her head, somehow looking even more concerned than before. She was worried about Alice. Sure, their current situation seemed a bit unreal, but to actually question it seemed... unusual.
Jessi slowly nodded. “Yeah... though I wish it wasn’t. I’m sorry.” Jessi said, scratching the back of her head anxiously.
“How are you feeling? I think you might’ve healed too many people... maybe you should rest in the car for a little bit.”

She shook her head, she should have been exhausted, but she wasn't. Alice picked at a fraying hole in her leggings nervously.

"I feel, fine. I'm just... lost." She said looking back at the crowd of strangers. If this was real, then her parents, Bleddyn's dad, and from the looks of it hundreds of other people were just gone.

"Your mom." She said looking back at Jessi compassionately, the overheard conversation finally sinking in. "Are you ok?"

Jessi sat down, shrugging. “Not- not really. It’s going to take time getting used to, you know?” She said, wiping a few tears out of her eyes. “I never thought they could actually... die.” It was a weird feeling, having something you so strongly believed in suddenly be ripped away.
Jessi looked at Alice. “I’m sorry for everything that’s happened.” She said softly.
