"Ich suppose dass is reassuring, aber dass young man, Ian, did admit dass mein country is now gone. Aber perhaps ich should nicht dread dass too heavily. Right now, im mein time, Germany is still remaining. And if ich ever go back home, it will still sein there. It will nicht be gone like he told mich, at least nicht yet. So, ich have dass to hold onto."

Dierk had pretty much stopped truly trying to speak English. He could still be understood, like how he understood the gist of what Madeleine was saying, but he was now incorporating much more German than usual. It made the conversation not seem so foreign to him, since he was partially speaking the language he knew, before his wife had taught him English.
Now that was an interesting concept. What if their individual times as they knew them still existed? What if she could go back and her baby girl would be there still, her in-laws, her job? Madeleine cheered up a bit with that idea, even though it wasn't likely. Jacque wouldn't be there, of course, but at least she would have her previous life back. "Vous said vous avez un son, et une wife?" She looked to him curiously. "Voulez-vous to talk about them?" She asked. She was eager for some conversation about normal, daily life things.

"Ja, ich have a wife und a son...Or, ich did, before das incident. Aber, we were a fairly happy familie for seven years, and ich will never take dass for granted. Mein son was named Aksel, und mein wife was Meredith. She was an Amerikanisch woman, an immigrant to Germany." Dierk explained pleasantly, now feeling more comfortable with the happy, yet rather tragic, topic of his family.
"Did sie have a mann or kinder back at home?"

(I feel so clever right now; I only had to google one word from your post :D )

"Une American wife, how rebellious," Madeleine chuckled softly. A shadow of sorrow crossed her face as his question brought memories of her own family back. "Oui, j'ai une daughter, Amélie. Mon mari died un year ago—un year from what je last remember, anyway. Nous were only married pour deux years, mais they were le very best."

"Yeah, please tell us something, anything," Janette requested. "There's not much to be learned in this silence anyhow."

(Had to make a spot of tea to get into character before replying to this. )

"I grew up on a small farm, myself and my two older brothers both went off to war at the same time. I only ever fought in a handful of battles before all of this happened. In fact the last thing I remember is being on the battlefield. I am not sure how I got from there to here, but that is my tale such as it is." Nigel replied simply, he wasn't sure how he felt about this woman, she came off a bit brusque that was for sure. He gathered she was searching for information.

Nora had listened to their conversation but said little. She was focused on leading them to the houses, it wouldn't do well for her to get lost. She was surprised though that the young mans last memory was on the battlefield, that seemed stranger then the rest of them.

Janette nodded her head slowly. She could certainly add blunt to his list of characteristics. "I think none of us recall the exact moment between here and there," she mused.

(I just take the very few English words there are, and the context, and piece the very foreign puzzle together that way.)

"Oh. Ich apologize zum bringing it up, dass must sein hard for you." Dierk said apologetically,
"Mein wife passed away a jahr ago as well. Ich do miss her, und ich believe ich know your pain, at least slightly. Ich bet it ist hard, being a single mutter."

While Dierk's spirits had been lifted, he looked rather grave once again as he was reminded of the death of his wife and son. Everything he regretted was overwhelming today, now that the truth of the future had been shown to him.

"Non, c'est good to discus him on occasion," Madeleine said honestly. "Ma daughter, oui, c'est hard on days, but Jacque's sister et her husband are—were—un great help. Je very sorry to hear of vôtre wife's passing. Je know c'est not easy." She set her hand lightly on his shoulder out of consideration.

Name: Meredith Brun (Was originally Meredith Forrest)
Gender: Female
Age (When They Were Preserved in Ice): 29
What Year They Were Frozen Within Ice: 1939
Personality: Meredith is a rather opinionated but sweet woman that likes working hard and standing up for herself, but still is more old fashioned. She is loyal and motherly, and likes to make sure that she gives herself a fair share of work-usually by taking care of other people. She tends to butt heads with her husband rather often, but she still wouldn't share her entire life with anybody else.
History: Meredith Brun is an American woman who was always an explorer at heart, and had her mind set on travelling across the globe. But her plans quickly failed when she first traveled to Germany, where she met and eventually married Dierk Brun. She officially immigrated to Germany, and didn't set foot anywhere else as her husband worked in the military and became a part of the Nazis. She didn't wholeheartedly agree with this, but she didn't object to it either. She just did not want to see her husband get hurt, which Meredith knew would probably happen eventually. But Dierk wouldn't listen to any of that.
In 1939, she was shot and killed in the streets by her own husband, who was actually aiming for an attacker when she tried to push the man back to protect Dierk and got in the way. She doesn't currently know anything about the shooting, and still thinks Dierk, her, and her son are a happy family that stuck together until the end.

"Nein, it ist nicht easy. Aber, we must all move auf, und ich hope dass one day dass time will come for mich." Dierk said, trying to lighten the mood. He was glad to just have a friendly conversation with somebody that could at least slightly understand how he was feeling.
"Ich should focus auf helping uns alle survive this environment rather than dread memories von mein past, und ich will attempt to succeed im dass matter. Ich am sure sie do nicht have as rough von a past as ich, aber ich still wish auf sie dass your past will nicht haunt sie either."

( We're having too much fun with this)

"Oui, très true," Madeleine agreed, nodding her head readily.

"Speaking of," Ian said as he moved nearer the two, "I was thinking of heading out to see if there are any more survivors. Would either or both if you be interested in joining me?" He asked. He had been listening to their conversation from the other side of the fire. That wasn't to mean he could understand it, but he got the gist of it after a while. If it hadn't been such serious topics, he would have really enjoyed the humor to be found in their different accents alone.
