Skylaine nodded. 'I can see that - there aren't many chickens or people around here.'

She turned to look at CoxPaw. 'Grass snakes? What's wrong with them? Are they nice to eat?'

"Snakes in general don't usually taste very good, and there are plenty of poisoness ones out there so its better just to avoid them" Snowfeather explained

'Okay, I see,' Laine contemplated this. 'They look a bit like the chips the people fed us, only a lot longer.'

'Scouting the area? What's that for?' Skylaine clucked.

so that i find out if there are predators, and knowing the territory before one goes in it*

'Oh, I see. That does make sense.' Laine nodded. 'So, tell me, what sort of things do we look out for? Things like... that?' She pointed towards a large waterfall.

Snowfeather went and investigated the waterfall "Its fresh water" She reported "Now we will always have a fresh water source close to camp. We also look for fox dens, badger sets and any other suspisious things

Laine smiled to herself - she'd discovered a waterfall. Not bad for her first day in the forest...

She followed SnowFeather deeper into the forest, looking around her as large black birds swooped and cawed over them. 'Those are friendly... right?'

Snowfeather looked up "Ravens" She said "They mostly leave us alone, but sometimes if they get really hungry they have been known to attack chickens. They are bad for killing younger and smaller birds though. We'll have to chase them off"

Laine nodded, 'Okay. I don't think we have any chicks around here now, do we?'

She looked up dubiously at the ravens. Oh... how to fight? She had not a clue.
