“Barred Rock” pullet?

Can any chicken experts help this newbie. I purchased this barred rock chick from tractor supply, no idea how old she was but she wasn’t a teeny tiny chick and already had wing feathers. I’m guessing she’s now between 5-6wks. She’s all black & beginning to get red feathers on her neck …but no white. How come no white?? Is she really a barred rock or something else? She’s also very forward and in our face, friendly, our absolute favorite of the flock!!.. def the queen chick of the coop bossing and alerting the others. We’re nervous she might wind up being a cockerel. Any gender guesses?? Thanks!

First off, that is not a barred rock. TSC is known for mixing up breeds.

I'm leaning towards boy. But @TheOddOneOut Can give a better answer.

I second this. Looks just like my black sex link girl at that age. She's a great chicken!

At this age I do not believe it is male, but do update us.

They look like black stars or marans to me, I'm not familiar with the maturity of either breeds so I can't say for sure but I'd lean cockerel for both but it could be the black against the comb that makes it look bigger.

They appear to be black sexlinks. If so they should all by female. Black sexlinks are half Barred Rock half Rhode Island Red.

Looks a lot like my barred rock at that age. I bought from TSC. I purchased 2 Barred Rock. One ended up Black Sex Link…here are mine from today at 8 weeks. We purchased on April 8.

Wow great perspective. Def sounds like we were part of the TSC barred rock/ black sex link mixup of spring ‘22 lol. This also eases my mind that she’s most likely a she, if she’s a sex link! Bc if she was a male he’d be more striped? Is what I’m gathering?
