there’s this newer phenomenon, i’ve heard, of people breeding poodle dogs with everything, making “labradoodles” “goldendoodles” and even “bernedoodles” are a few i’ve heard of.

well a chicken breed i love a whole lot is a good old-fashioned salmon faverolle. i had one growing up and she was great. as a breed, they’re supposed to be “friendly”, “calm”, and “easy to handle”. they’re also cute and unique, having fluffy muffs, feathered legs, white skin, and five toes. my girl would lay very neat pink eggs too.

fast forward and nine-ish months ago, i hatched this stunning fella when incubating a random ebay clutch of eggs for the first time ever in a cheap shein incubator.

he was dubbed marshmallow at birth.

I also hatched a sweet little olive egger as well. she actually hatched right after marshmallow did. my sister took to the little goth thing and named her koh.

she is a family favorite so when i cracked her egg for breakfast and it was obviously fertile for the first time, i broke out the same cheap incubator i hatched their parents in, and hatched three little barnyard mixes. or oliverolles. or more honestly for one chick, a brahmarolle, seeing as i set 3 olives to hatch and included a light brahma egg just incase the third olive egg didn’t hatch (it didn’t). my sister calls her the “bastard child”, so here’s the bastard’s mother “butterball” and all 3 chicks.

butterball the light brahma, a hatchery chick a few months older than koh and marshmallow.

the two closest are faverolle/olive egger mixes, and the furthest is a light brahma/faverolle mix.

this thread is essentially like a log for me to record photos and data of these little babies growing up! the lighter oliverolle is jojo, the black one is yukako, and the brahmarolle is trish. since three is such a small hatch i get to spend a lot of time with each chick and it’ll be fun for me to document them as they grow. this will be a long thread.

here’s each chick and their stats:

IMG_3587.jpeg

jolyne (jojo)
olive egger/faverolle
fun traits: muffs, lavender colored beak

IMG_3590.jpeg

trish
light brahma/faverolle
fun traits: muff, feathered legs, five toes. absolutely dense little bird

IMG_3598.jpeg

yukako
olive egger/faverolle
fun traits: almost all black like her mother, muff, feathered legs

these little guys are so sweet. they’ve imprinted on me and cry when i’m not with them and settle when i reach my hand in. what will be fun for me is seeing them mature, as i held out hope for the longest time that their dad marshmallow was a hen, lmao. with lots of photos i want to see the exact turning point where i start to see the difference between the pullets and cockerels.

from here on out will just be a collection of their info as they grow up!

leaving the first post with this: the most quintessential fluffy yellow chick, my light brahma/salmon faverolle.

let’s see how these things turn out :)

Congratulations! You have some gorgeous chicks and chickens!

If you want to start up a "blog" of sorts in BYC where you can post updates to them, you could make your own here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/pictures-stories-of-my-flock.39/
