“True” silkies or silky mixes

Aye they really don't look like bantams to me either, hopefully you'll be able to get a better idea as they grow! A lot of chicks that will end up black as adults are that color, those little cuties kind of remind me of black australorps or black jersey giant chicks. I don't have enough experience with anything but silkies to be able to guess very well though!
We have 6 actual silkies that are about 4 weeks older than these guys and the little blonde baby that’s with these two, so once these started growing I was like ... hmm lol they’re a little different haha I have absolutely no knowledge of any other chicken breeds either so I better get to researching. Thank you! I will look those two up

I see no Silkie traits in those chicks. They look like black Australorp chicks.
Only the blond one in the brooder is a Silkie as I can see.
The blonde one is named Tiny. I know he/she’s all silky. Wasn’t sure about these two though. I don’t know anything about black australorps but I will look that up. thank you!

I've just got silkies now but I really liked having a mixed flock in the past. I love the difference in personalities and appearance!

One of the very first chickens I had as a kid was a black australorp named penguin, she was such a sweetie and a good layer too. :)
We originally thought we had 9 silkies but now clearly have 7 silkies and 2 australorps. They seem like great chickens from everything I’ve read, I’m glad they somehow got mixed in. Lol I wonder how many other australorps got accidentally sold as silkies! Lol either way they’re adorable!! These two are named Coco and Moose courtesy of my kids :)

Aww what cute names for them! :)

I can't help but look at the chicks every time we go to the tractor supply around here during chick days. I've seen a decent amount of mislabeling or mixing up going on so I bet it's a pretty common occurrence to get something other than what you thought you were getting at some feed stores.

Oh definitely we got 6 white Silkies the first go around and wanted some variation in color so we decided to wait until more came in to buy a couple more. I saw the black ones in the silkie brooder and I was like oh cool I’ll take these! Then I saw the little blonde baby and decided to take that one too 😂 I’ve been reading on australorps and I’m pretty excited now though!! Lol

I have two chicks that are growing at a rate of almost double they’re other brooder mate. Their feathers also aren’t as fluffy and instead of five toes they have four. I know they can still be true silkies with only four toes. It doesn’t matter either way, just curious to what everyone’s best guess is 😊
They don't look like they are silkies or silkie mixes... They look to be maybe a maran/barred rock. They are very cute though!:)
