Hai! I wanna ask you guys a thing, because whenever I make decisions myself, I end up changing it in a year. The struggle is real.

Anyway, I want to put good roosts in my big coop. Any roosty thoughts?
What have you got now? Of the pictures ive seen you have quite a few things for them to climb on.

Oh

Same though. XD

And, I don't really have any thoughts... I guess make the roosts as close to branches as possible? They're harder to clean (you could make the individual roost bars removable), but they help prevent keel breakage and feet problems. :P

I don't think that's the one I'm talking about, though I've moved it around several times. I'll get a picture when I get done with lunch.

Its a walk in coop with nest boxes in the back, about waist high. There's a big window in the front. Right now the roost is a small hickory trunk running in front of the nest boxes. My problem is that it looks redneck-ified because there's an old saddle rack, laying on it's side, holding up the roost. The saddle rack also has a tire sitting on it so the hens can have a soft step to land on.

I just need to find a way to get rid of the saddle rack and still have a step. And since it's in front of the nest boxes, I have to duck under it every time.

Yeah, I figured that out pretty quick. Had brother cut a smol tree and we're using that. It's probably 12 inches around at the biggest part.

Thats a heavy tree. Itll be hard to get it to stay up without something to set it on. Maybe use a 4x4 thats been cut on the top edge to fit the round side of the branch? And screw it in place?

I think a lot of people put a poop board under their roosts above their nest boxes as both a step for the girls and as a way to keep the floor under the roost cleaner for "crawling" under for eggs.
