How do you use layers??

using layers means I can do this. each color is on it's own layer. the white dots next to the layers show which ones are in use. peach and pink are above the green so they are coloring over top, The scribbly mess of green is still there.

and this way if I wanted to I could alter just one color at a time erasing it, but leaving all the other colors there.
